The successful candidate:
The Surgical Oncology Nurse Practitioner is a provider working under the supervision of a Surgical Oncologist to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to patients with or at risk for cancer. This role encompasses clinical evaluation, perioperative management, patient education, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to optimize outcomes.
Overall responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assists the attending physician in providing a variety of patient care activities including daily inpatient rounds, outpatient follow-up visits, consults, writing orders, and procedural support.
Collaborate with the surgeon to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, as well as assist with procedures which may include OR first assist.
Recognizes and evaluates situations which call for immediate attention of the supervising surgeon or attending physician
Orders therapy treatments, diagnostic laboratory and radiological tests/procedures, and therapeutic diets as necessary
Assess patient perioperatively, customize perioperative and discharge plans.
Sees patients in the office for cancer surveillance.
Obtains and records detailed and accurate medical histories
Acts as a liaison between nursing staff or other services and physician
Facilitates referral of patients to health facilities, agencies and community resources
Completes written documentation in line with policy
Requirements:
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Nurse Practitioner (NP)
Georgia RN license and Georgia Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license
Minimum 3 years of Nurse Practitioner experience
Preferred 2 years surgical experience in surgery
DEA within 2 months of hire
ACLS
BLS
ONS certification (optional)
AOCNP (optional)
