uada.edu Summary of Job Duties:This position is a 12 month non-tenure track position in Beef Cattle Extension that will contribute to the Extension (75%) and Research (25%) mission of the University of Arkansas, Division of Agriculture, Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station.

This faculty member will be responsible for statewide educational programs that focus on the needs of Arkansas beef cattle producers, Extension personnel, and industry partners. The program should focus on improving profitability and sustainability of all beef operations in Arkansas. Programs should address key components of beef production, such as animal health, reproduction, or nutritional management depending upon the candidate's expertise.

The faculty member will be expected to conduct original applied research in beef cow production that complements their Extension programming efforts. Research should be published in refereed publications, and Extension or popular press publications.

The faculty will be required to successfully compete for funding to support their Extension and research activities.

Duties include:
Provide high quality leadership in Extension programming including collaboration and support across the state through in-service training, county demonstration development and farm visit support.

Work with leadership in the Arkansas cattle industry to develop responses to challenges faced by Arkansas cattle producers.

Obtain external funding to support research and Extension efforts.

Publish results from applied research studies in appropriate refereed journals and Extension publications.

Remain current with research innovations relevant to the beef industry.

Collaborate broadly, with scientists within the Department of Animal Science and other disciplines within the University of Arkansas, Division of Agriculture.

Provide service to the Department of Animal Science, the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, and other scholarly groups. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
- This position requires a Ph.D. in Animal Science, with emphasis of beef cattle production/management (or closely related field).

- Demonstrated working knowledge of beef cow-calf production systems in the Mid to Deep Southeastern United States.

- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form for a variety of audiences (scientific/technical and producer).

- Ability to work independently, and as a team member.

- Willingness to travel statewide to provide educational programming.

- Willingness to work odd hours and weekends for programming activities.

- Computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of the Land Grant system and mission.

- Knowledge managing a beef herd.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to obtain & interpret research information. Ability to anticipate changing trends in assigned discipline area & develop programs to address those changes. Knowledge of the principles & techniques of adult education. Knowledge of the program planning process. Ability to work effectively with a variety of professional & lay audiences. Ability to communicate & convey ideas effectively to faculty, stakeholder groups, & clientele. Knowledge of social, economic, political & cultural factors affecting adult & youth learning. Physical & mental ability to effectively perform the duties & responsibilities of the job, including long & irregular hours of work & frequent in-state & out-of-state travel.
