The Integrated Warfare Systems Group (IWSG) comprises more than 100 staff that provide program and project management, systems and digital engineering, software, test & evaluation, product support, cybersecurity, international/Foreign Military Sales, strategic communications, and IT support to more than 100 Above Water Sensor, Undersea, and Combat System programs and projects in the Navy's Program Executive Office for Integrated Warfare Systems (PEO IWS) and customers in Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), Office of Naval Research (ONR), Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the Navy's Team Submarine Office. Responsibilities

We are seeking a dedicated Systems Engineer to support the Space Systems Development Department (SSDD), the primary space and ground support systems research and development (R&D) organization of the Naval Center for Space Technology (NCST), an organization within the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC. This organization provides Navy Space Program technology development and acquisition of space, aerospace, and Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems to assist Naval Missions. Responsibilities include advanced research and development for scientific, technical, and engineering efforts associated with the development and integration of C4ISR systems. This position is full-time onsite at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC. We expect to hire for this position in late 2025.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are commensurate with experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Washington, DC Pay Transparency Range: $140,000-180,000.



Qualifications

Required

    BS Degree in Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science
  • DoD granted TOP SECRET security clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Minimum relevant experience of fifteen (15) years

Desired

  • Experience in the systems engineering sciences of satellite and communications systems, system development and integration, and Multi-INT data production and fusion, with a primary focus assessing and demonstrating the effectiveness of new concepts and ideas for systems in achieving particular mission goals, formulating overall design concepts, developing criteria to establish the baseline for advancement of state-of-the-art engineering efforts as well as reviewing and assessing overall progress in the development effort phases, resolving technical challenges that can occur due to dynamic changes in characteristics, approach, criteria, and requirements, and integrating stakeholder requirements and multiple design approaches while addressing overall program risk, cost, and schedule constraints.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute mission-related advanced system planning for assigned missions or program areas.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting continuous analysis of present and future capabilities for assigned areas; establishing requirements, ground rules, and assumptions for future programs; and initiating changes to achieve objectives of programs. Includes generating and planning new concepts, methods, and techniques which can provide a significant technical advantage, operational impact, or breakthrough in the assigned area; advising and justifying the best feasible approach to be taken for each solution proposed; and formulating and recommending specific work requirements, priorities, and resource allocations necessary to accomplish long-range plans for the assigned area.
  • Demonstrated ability developing system flow-down requirements specifying top-level system requirements and their flow-down relationships with individual subsystems, utilizing broad knowledge of specialties within the engineering discipline to assure system integrity by establishing compatibility between equipment, other subsystems, and components.
  • Demonstrated experience providing overall leadership and direction of pioneering innovative Research and Development (R&D) eforts to address previously unattainable capabilities and characteristics.
