Provide supervision of Sonoco Wisconsin Board's board machine operations in a manner which will ensure the production of high quality paperboard in the most efficient, economical, and safest manner.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide shift supervision to stock preparation, shipping/receiving, and board machine crews, including assignment and direction of work, monitoring of training, etc.
  • Ensure that employees are observing and held accountable to all safety rules.
  • Certify specifications are maintained throughout the stock preparation and board machine processes to ensure product quality.
  • Manage crew schedules, monitor and record attendance; arrange for call-ins as required Make frequent checks of the condition of stock and machine operations evaluating such things as wet end tests, pulp quality, whitewater quality for reuse, wire drainage, formation, press operation, weight and moisture profiles, drying conditions, etc.
  • Attend maintenance planning and lockout meetings, prepare lockouts, confined space entry permits and hot work permits for regular scheduled and unscheduled shutdowns.
  • Manage machine crews and coordinate with maintenance department during scheduled shutdowns to ensure that work is safely and efficiently completed to achieve the shutdown and start-up timeline.
  • Administer contract provisions and company policies avoiding breach of contract, ensuring conformance to work rules and regulations, and administering appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Ensure that training for new employees is completed, including safety training and procedures, job duties, chemicals training and handling, and fire and emergency evacuation training. Complete employee progress reports.
  • Make determination of when to call in maintenance resources to troubleshoot and repair issues that affect machine safety runnability, quality and up-time.
  • Effectively communicate day-to-day information on critical and routine issues affecting productivity, quality, safety, personnel, and maintenance to shift successor, maintenance manager, production manager and others as needed.
  • Monitor raw material inventories such as pallets, stretch wrap, and cores to ensure customer orders are produced and delivered as expected in a timely manner.
  • Perform environmental inspections related to spill control and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of Manufacturing experience. (Paper experience preferred)
  • Demonstrated supervisory ability or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Essential Position Requirements

  • Communicate well both in oral and written form.
  • Possess ambulatory capabilities to be able to walk extensively, climb, etc. in carrying out responsibilities.

Work beyond normal work schedule as necessary to fulfill position responsibilities

Compensation:

The annual base salary range for this role is from $102,720 to $115,560, plus a monthly target bonus of 12.5% of base salary.
