Information Systems Security Engineer, Senior woodcons.com Location: Annapolis Junction, Maryland, USA Job Type: Full-Time Shift: Days Telework: None Salary Range: $180,000 to $200,000 ** Starting salary is based on minimum education and years of experience and increases based on education and/or experience. Overview: We are seeking a highly experienced and mission-driven Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to join our elite team supporting a critical government program. This role demands a seasoned cybersecurity professional with deep technical expertise, a strategic mindset, and a commitment to national security. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust security architectures for complex, distributed systems operating in high-security environments. Security Clearance Requirements: This position requires all candidates to be U.S. Citizens and possess an active TS/SCI Security Clearance with a Polygraph.
Responsibilities
Conduct technical security assessments to identify vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with IA standards and regulations.
- Validate and verify system security requirements and develop secure system architectures.
- Design and integrate IA/security systems across multi-enclave environments with varying classification levels.
- Collaborate with architects and developers to embed security functionality into system designs.
- Lead risk analysis, threat mitigation, and security planning throughout the system lifecycle.
- Review and provide feedback on Certification & Accreditation (C&A) documentation.
- Evaluate and test security solutions, software, and configurations to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in security architecture, policy enforcement, and compliance strategy.
- Participate in Agile development processes, including Program Increment Planning and sprint activities.
Qualifications
Senior Information System Security Engineer:
- Twenty (20) years experience as an ISSE on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security System Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
- A Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security System Engineering, or related discipline may be substituted for two (2) years of experience, reducing the requirement to eighteen (18) years of experience.
- Four (4) years of additional ISSE experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
- DoD 8570 compliance with IASAE Level 3 is required.
- Both Information Systems Security Engineering Professional (ISSEP) and CISSP Certifications are required.
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Risk Management Framework (RMF)
- Security policy formulation and assessment
- Vulnerability testing and mitigation
- Security tools (e.g., Nessus, NMAP, Wireshark)
- Secure OS configurations and system hardening
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
- Experience with system security engineering across the full system lifecycle.
