Position Summary


The Associate General Counsel will work closely with the Office of the General Counsel team and the partners of the firm to assist in the management of Firm risk, including handling professional negligence claims, regulatory investigations, and employment disputes.


Duties and Accountabilities1



  • Support the Office of the General Counsel team with professional negligence claims, regulatory investigations, and employment disputes
  • Interface with Human Resources to provide advice on personnel issues and to manage associated risks
  • Drive forward DAC6 Omnitrack project
  • Responsible for ongoing reviews of mailbox access requests, NDAs, local counsel engagement letters, and work experience requests
  • Deliver training on compliance and risk management issues
  • Contribute to responsible business governance efforts on behalf of the Office of the General Counsel, collaborating with relevant teams to ensure compliance with incoming regulations
  • Perform other duties necessary and essential to support the Firm's strategic goals
  • Act as a go-to person in specific areas of practice with a reputation for high quality legal advice to the Firm. Know the details, facts and technicalities
  • Continue exploring developments and deepen knowledge across multiple disciplines
  • Contribute to an environment where team members go above and beyond to deliver high quality work
  • Identify knowledge gaps within the Office of the General Counsel in area of focus and upskill other members of the team (direct reports or otherwise)
  • Raise profile and credibility as a go to person - share knowledge, experience, speak at events, train others
  • Develop long-lasting, trusting and collaborative relationships with internal clients
  • Effectively anticipate and respond to Firm needs, manage expectations and adapt to different styles and cultural sensitivities
  • Create a calm environment to achieve results in challenging situations and ensure team well-being
  • Lead and project-manage assignments to deliver results proactively and swiftly
  • Create space for learning and mentorship of direct reports and otherwise - exchange feedback, coach and guide others

  • Leverage insights from different practice groups and geographies to deliver an integrated offering to the Firm
  • Proactively develop and deliver training materials and programs to colleagues and team members
  • Make commercial, ethical and strategic decisions that are in the best interests of the Firm
  • Leverage creative thinking and diverse skills and knowledge to solve challenges
  • Understand future challenges and opportunities to influence the Office of the General Counsel or Firm strategy
  • Implement plans, technology and resources to improve efficiency and effectiveness within the Office of the General Counsel


Qualifications



  • Strong academic qualifications
  • A qualified lawyer with a practicing certificate admitted in New York state
  • At least two (2) years' experience working as a litigator or in the Office of the General Counsel of a major international law firm


Location and Reporting


  • This role is based in our New York office.
  • This role reports to the Deputy General Counsel, Head of Claims and Investigations.
