The Office of Information Technology (
OIT) is Rutgers' enterprise IT office.
OIT provides university wide services and support and collaborates with department and unit IT professionals on projects and initiatives for the Rutgers community. OIT's services and systems include the Rutgers network; email and calendaring systems; IDs/passwords and identity management; data centers; computer labs; help desk support; wireless connectivity; a software portal; information security, risk, and compliance services; research computing; and many others. IST Analyst II (Linux Administration) for the Office of Information Technology within Enterprise Infrastructure.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Ensures robust system security.
- Conducts regular monitoring and upgrades.
- Maintains system stability and services availability.
- Manages various middleware packages.
- Installs, configures, and maintains Linux and Unix operating systems, software, and server hardware.
- Monitors system performance, utilization, and security logs.
- Implements and manages security tools and policies.
- Updates systems with the latest security patches.
- Identifies and correct hardware and software issues.
- Works closely with other EI IT staff to ensure hardware and software interoperability.
- Communicates effectively with team members to enhance system functionality and resolve issues.
- Assists other EI systems programmers/administrators with problem diagnosis and resolution.
- Documents system configurations and upgrades.
- Maintains current knowledge of server operating systems and hardware technologies utilized by EI.
- Maintains current knowledge of scripting languages (Shell, Python, Perl, etc.).
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3 years of progressively more responsible experience managing Linux and Unix systems.
- Equivalent education, experience, and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Demonstrated expertise in the management of complex technical systems and environments in a technical setting, with a strong understanding of workflow, policies, and procedures pertinent to production environments.
- In-depth knowledge of server hardware, server operating systems, and software including performance analysis and monitoring.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and solve complex technical problems, with experience in system security practices.
- Strong familiarity with network/information systems theory and design, including TCP/IP, DNS, and load balancing.
- Broad understanding of network/server connectivity, security issues, architecture, policy, and practice in large, complex enterprises.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Current Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience.
- Experience in automated deployment and management using configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Salt, Puppet, Chef).
- Experience with system monitoring tools and techniques and working knowledge of VMware virtualized server environment.

- Experience in a Higher Education technology environment.
- Knowledge of ServiceNow.
- A working knowledge of Solaris.
