Job Overview

The Pharmacy Technician Educator position serves as a subject matter expert within Pharmacy operations providing mentorship, training, and teaching to Pharmacy staff, interns, and students; coordinates, and facilitates all onboarding and orientation programs for pharmacy technicians; supports maintains and operationalizes a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program in collaboration with leadership while supporting essential functions of the pharmacy by staffing as required.

The Pharmacy Technician Educator will be supporting a new program here at Children's Hospital Colorado. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to significant and important project work, while also demonstrating informal leadership skills. The ideal candidate is adept at managing projects, guiding others, and thrive in ambiguous and changing environments.

Hours per Week: 40, eligible for benefits
Shift: Variable day/evening weekday hours, with weekend support and possible holiday coverage.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary facilitator for new hire pharmacy technician orientation and onboarding. Coordinates onboarding schedule, reviews orientation evaluations and manages trainee and trainer feedback. Maintains formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program, including program outline, content, tracking and evaluations.
  • Evaluates competencies and training documentation to ensure newly hired team members are prepared to practice safely and independently.
  • Mentors, develops, and evaluates trainers to enhance learning experiences.
  • Supports the integration of evidence-based literature into practice by assessing learning needs and incorporating adult learning principles to facilitate active learner involvement.
  • Maintains knowledge of coaching concepts and methods; ability to encourage, motivate, and guide individuals or teams in learning and improving effectiveness. Coaches' others to improve their skills through observation and feedback.
  • In partnership with department leadership, coordinates formal and informal educational programs for Pharmacy staff including but not limited to pharmacy education training days, continuing education efforts, ongoing educational programs, and annual competencies to meet the needs of department.
  • Supports quality improvement standards; regulatory standards; patient safety standards; error prevention tools, methodologies, technologies, and resources.
  • Facilitates required competencies for current employees, including ensuring appropriate cadence of competencies, tracking of completion and administration of any required evaluations in accordance with policy and regulatory standards.
  • Ensures consistency with the standards and guidelines set forth by Professional Boards regarding the structure, academic standards, record keeping, and evaluation process.
  • Maintains continuing education hours and verifies certification/recertification for hired Pharmacy Technicians. Tracks annual requirements and verifies compliance with national registry and state licensure.
  • Demonstrates leadership through team building, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills to build partnerships across the system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • EDUCATION - High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • EXPERIENCE -Three (3) years of pharmacy technician experience
    • At least two (2) years of previous inpatient hospital experience is preferred
  • EQUIVALENCY - Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program may substitute for one (1) year of the experience requirement. Post-secondary degree may substitute for one (1) year of experience requirement.
  • CERTIFICATION(S) -
  • State of Colorado Pharmacy Technician (PHAT) Certification
  • Certificate through a nationally recognized certification board or body approved by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) such as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcare Association (NHA)
  • Sterile Compounding certification (within 6 months of hire)

Salary Information

Hourly Range: $23.54 to $35.31

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
