Overview

The Technology COO organization at Salesforce is dedicated to driving operational excellence and innovation across our technology teams. We support a broad range of functions including Content Experience, Learning & Enablement, Agile teams and more. Our mission is to empower the Technology organization with the programs, enablement, data, tools, and insights they need to succeed.

As a Director/ Senior Director of Engineering in the Accelerated Engineering team, you will provide technical leadership and strategic direction for a software engineering team dedicated to advancing the productivity of the TechCOO organization. This role demands a deep understanding of modern technology stacks and engineering principles, with an ability to drive the development and adoption of innovative, AI-driven solutions that meet the complex and evolving needs of Salesforce's growing Technology organization. Experience with Salesforce technologies (including Agentforce, Data Cloud, and Heroku) is a plus, but your expertise in building scalable, high-performance systems is paramount.

You will be responsible for cultivating a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement, fostering an environment where practices like mob programming and test-driven development flourish at scale. This includes mentoring and empowering engineering leaders, building trusted relationships with key stakeholders across engineering, product, and executive teams, and collectively defining and executing a roadmap for elegant, performant, and high-quality solutions. Your exceptional oral and written communication skills will be critical in articulating technical strategy, influencing outcomes, and representing the team's contributions across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the execution and delivery of new features, tools and functionality on the Salesforce platform for the TechCOO organization.

  • Partner with engineers and teams to build and implement strategies for increasing product quality and delivery cadence using AI tools.

  • Empower teams to self-organize and continuously improve delivery velocity and quality

  • Provide guidance and support to ensure Agile practices are effectively leveraged within a small, high-impact engineering team

  • Make critical architectural and strategic decisions, leveraging AI and machine learning techniques to personalize and optimize user experiences and robust technical solutions.

  • Foresee potential design and technical challenges and resolve them proactively.

  • Partner closely with peer teams to identify opportunities for shared services and collaboration, and drive partnerships to achieve combined business outcomes.

  • Ensure teams have clear priorities, adequate resources, and the technical guidance to succeed.

  • Provide mentorship, career development, and hands-on technical coaching to engineers and product leads.

  • Foster a strong culture of collaboration, experimentation, and excellence.

  • Participate in architecture discussions, platform planning, and governance.

  • Support hiring efforts by selecting and retaining top-tier engineering talent.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience leading software engineering teams with a strong track record in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

  • 5+ years of experience programming with Apex (classes, triggers, and web services), and other OOP languages (Java, etc.) is preferred.

  • Experience integrating and scaling AI-assisted or ML-powered experiences across web or app platforms.

  • Hands-on knowledge of software engineering best practices including continuous delivery, testing strategies, accessibility, and internationalization.

  • Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices on the Salesforce platform.

  • Experience working in Extreme Programming work environments with Test Driven Development and Mob Programming is preferred.

  • Experience with agile methodologies and acting as a Scrum Master.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor senior engineers and lead with empathy and clarity.

  • Experience working on customer-facing products with fast release cycles and high reliability requirements.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a keen ability to partner with global teams.

  • A related technical degree required (Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field, or relevant experience).

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $211,500 to $351,800. For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $230,800 to $384,100.
