Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring an IT Project Manager-ERP in Richmond, Virginia. The IT Project Manager-ERP lead the transition from a legacy system to Microsoft Dynamics. This role requires advanced technical expertise, project management, and leadership to ensure a seamless implementation that aligns with business goals and delivers measurable value. Seeking candidates with a minimum five years ERP experience, preferably with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (e.g., Business Central, Finance and Operations). Expertise in data migration (e.g., DMF, data mapping, validation) and cloud-based ERP architecture (e.g., Azure integration). Experience with legacy system transitions and knowledge of common ERP pitfalls (e.g., over-customization, poor vendor selection). Experience holding vendors and teams accountable, with skills in negotiating contracts and enforcing SLAs. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. Advanced degree or PMP certification preferred.

Requirements for the IT Project Manager-ERP position include:
  • Proven ability to manage customizations, balancing business needs with standard functionality to avoid complexity.
  • Strong project management skills, with fluency in Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools like Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • Proficiency in reporting tools (e.g., Power BI) to deliver clear, actionable insights to diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills to bridge technical and business teams, supporting the IT leader's stakeholder relationships.
  • Must be able to adapt to fast-paced IT culture and manage cross-functional teams in high-pressure environments.
  • Collaborative mindset to leverage the IT leader's network and practical IT knowledge, providing technical guidance to counter risks like overambition or reliance on misguided advisors.
  • Must possess ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including developing detailed project plans.
  • Strong change management skills to drive user adoption and manage resistance, complementing the IT leader's communication strengths.
  • Proactive risk management to address scope creep, data errors, or resource shortages, ensuring alignment with the business objectives.

Physical requirements must be met for the IT Project Manager-ERP job, including regularly being required to sit for long periods of time and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
