Job Description/Summary:

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Maintenance Mechanic. The Maintenance Mechanic will perform general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. The Mechanic shall be experienced and able to be responsible for performing emergency service and repairs as necessary to satisfy service requests and to maintain the equipment listed on the building equipment inventory in proper operating condition in USGS's Main Building, Power Plant, Physics Building, Advanced Systems Center Building, and all ancillary buildings on the USGS campus. The employee must otherwise meet any requirements of the Government for this classification contained in the applicable RFP and contract.

Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Follows local guidance and FAR regulations
  • Operate multiple types of vehicles in the delivery of materials between various sites
  • Ensure loading bays remain organized and free of clutter



Required Experience/Skills:

Five (5) years of experience, including: performing maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skills in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work and specifically familiar with:



  • Multi-trade Proficiency: Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and basic electronics.
  • Preventive Maintenance (PM): Ability to follow and complete preventive maintenance programs on building systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Strong skills in identifying and resolving mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system issues.
  • Building Automation Systems (BAS): Experience with monitoring, adjusting, and troubleshooting BAS platforms (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell).
  • Chiller/Boiler Systems: Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of central plant equipment.
  • Motor Controls & Pumps: Understanding of VFDs, motor control centers, and pump systems.
  • FMMS Proficiency: Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., Maximo, eMaint, Archibus) for work order management and documentation


Preferred Experience & Skills:



  • Seven (7) years of experience conducting a variety of tests to determine type and quality of recyclable materials, storing recyclable materials for maximum convenience of handling preparatory to shipment and for protection from deterioration, operating forklifts to transport and stock loaded pallets in warehouses, preparing receipts and reports concerning materials collected, assisting in performing preventive maintenance, minor repairs and lubrication of machinery, and disassembling scrap material using hand tools


Required Education:



  • High School diploma or GED.
