POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Admissions Office Manager, this role is responsible for coordinating psychiatric inpatient admissions and managing financial clearance from the Psychiatry Admissions Office, Emergency Department, and Psychiatry Inpatient Units.

The PDC Registrar ensures a smooth and efficient admissions process by:




  • Interviewing patients, families, or representatives to gather demographic and insurance information



  • Verifying insurance coverage via phone, fax, and online systems



  • Advising patients of financial obligations



  • Obtaining precertification and conducting courtesy reviews with insurance providers



  • Completing and processing registration and financial paperwork



  • Updating registration systems and coordinating admissions with psychiatric inpatient units



  • Facilitating transfers to alternative facilities when beds are unavailable



  • Assisting with the decompression of psychiatric patients in acute distress




The PDC Financial Counselor ensures compliance with JHHS and JHU financial policies related to psychiatric patient admissions, including:




  • Insurance verification and benefits eligibility



  • Preauthorization and precertification procedures



  • Financial liability assessment and patient counseling



  • Time-of-service collections and payment plan arrangements



  • Assisting with financial aid applications



  • Generating third-party claims and following up on continued stay coverage




This role requires a strong understanding of the revenue cycle, payer contracts, and systems across affiliate locations. The position involves direct interaction with patients and families both on and off the medical unit to secure insurance coverage, complete financial documentation, and explore alternative funding sources, all in support of maximizing reimbursement for the Health System.

COMPETENCIES:

A. Education:
High school diploma required; Associate's degree preferred.

Salary Range: Minimum $18.59/hour - Maximum $30.69/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
