The Pennsylvania Public School Employees' Retirement Board ("PSERS' Board") is excited to welcome a diligent and experienced attorney to serve as Assistant Counsel while providing a wide-range of legal services throughout the agency. PSERS is located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a mid-size city situated along the Susquehanna River. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As Assistant Counsel, you will be responsible for performing professional legal work ranging from moderately complex to complex legal matters with the PSERS' Board and various management staff. This professional will draft, revise, negotiate, and manage a myriad of contracts and related documents, as well as render legal advice relating to compliance with the client's enabling legislation, securities laws, and other laws. A successful candidate for the Assistant Counsel position will be able to demonstrate: (1) experience with, and a strong interest in, business and contracting; (2) a familiarity with, or an interest in developing, expertise in the laws and regulations applicable to PSERS, Health Options Program ("HOP") and the School Employees' Defined Contribution ("Plan"); (3) excellent legal research and writing skills; (4) attention to detail and the ability to identify, analyze, and provide recommendations on legal issues on a wide range of topics; (5) exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including a capability to facilitate and participate in both remote and in-person discussions; (6) the ability to manage a contract load and various other assignments, simultaneously; and (7) the ability to work independently and to work collaboratively within the legal office and with the clients. - Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Some travel may be required.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Five years of professional legal experience and graduation from an accredited school of law; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Post Employment Requirements:
- Applicants must be certified for admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and must maintain membership on a continuous basis during employment.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- At least two years of experience providing legal counsel regarding investment related transactions.
- At least three years of business and contracting experience as an attorney, which includes experience independently drafting and negotiating contracts, drafting legal opinions and memoranda.
