Position Summary |
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.
The Digital Media department is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Digital Technology & Architecture to ensure the stability, performance and evolution of the Museum's public-facing digital platforms, including the website, mobile guides, signage, APIs and analytics tool. The Associate Director leads implementation and delivery of digital products while aligning technical strategy with institutional goals in education, engagement and revenue. As a cross-functional collaborator and team leader, the Associate Director bridges technical operationalization with strategic vision, supporting high-impact, user-centered solutions across departments.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure the stable, secure and high-performing operation of public-facing digital platforms, including the website, mobile guides, signage, APIs and analytics.
- Lead system architecture design and technical implementation of new features and improvements across platforms while managing integration of systems such as CMS, DAMS, CRM, collections databases and e-commerce.
- Ensure best practices in accessibility, SEO, QA, analytics and digital governance.
- Collaborate across departments, IT and vendors to deliver scalable, user-centered solutions, while managing and mentoring developers, SEO specialists and contractors to build a cohesive, mission-aligned team.
- Contribute to strategic planning, including digital roadmap, budget development and staying current with trends in digital architecture and experience.
The expected salary range for the Associate Director of Digital Technology & Architecture is $150,000/annual - $170,000/annual. The

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience. |
Minimum Qualifications |
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Seven years of progressive experience including building, managing and integrating digital products including content management/publishing systems, mobile apps, cloud hosting and digital analytics.
- Excellent understanding of digital best practices, including SEO, analytics, accessibility, software development life cycle and version control/deployment.
- Familiarity with web technologies, PHP/LAMP, HTML/JavaScript/CSS, Apache, mobile/embedded software (iOS, Android, digital signage, media players) and APIs.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Familiarity with DevOps, database, network and API management tools and other IT infrastructure concepts.

Physical Demands |
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
