- MS Office proficiency as well as the ability to learn how to use new software as needed.

- Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot.
- An ability to work independently to schedule, plan, and complete subject visits.

We are seeking a full-time cooperative (co-op) education student, in the Traverso Lab at Brigham and Women's Hospital with a background in biomedical engineering and drug formulation. Our research group consists of an interdisciplinary team of engineers, chemists, biologists, pharmaceutical scientists, and physicians focused on developing clinically translatable biomedical devices and drug delivery systems.

The student will contribute towards developing implantable and transdermal systems for long-term delivery of contraceptive and biologic drugs. Primary responsibilities include in vitro drug formulation, device fabrication, in vitro and ex vivo characterization of these systems, and assisting with in vivo testing in small and large animals.

The candidate should be a student enrolled in a B.S./M.A.program or equivalentin biomedical engineering, material science, bioengineering, pharmacology or a related field.An ideal candidate will have demonstrated research background in medical device fabrication and/or drug formulation. In addition, the candidate should have some experience in at least two of the following:

*Mechanical device design and manufacturing

*Drug formulation

*Analytical chemistry

*Molecular biology

*In vivoexperimentation

Applicant will be trained to perform techniques in experiments, including techniques related to animal work. After sufficient training, the intern is expected to work independently with minimal supervision;

Candidate must have self-motivation and willingness to learn new tools and techniques; strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; comfort summarizing and reporting results to interdisciplinary researchers; commitment to exceeding standards and producing accurate, high quality work; meticulous attention to detail; practiced documentation skills; and ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
