Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Distributed Control Systems Engineer to work on our System Engineering team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) facility with every Friday off.

You will apply engineering principles for assigned nuclear facility control systems to support operational performance of the Advanced Test Reactor. You will report directly to the manager of the ATR System Engineering department.

Responsibilities:



  • Evaluate, design, maintain, modify, install, and test facility systems and process support systems. Ensure continued operational readiness of assigned systems, structures and components and support.
  • Apply knowledge and experience in application of Industrial Control Systems programming, instrumentation, networking, and troubleshooting.
  • Initiate corrective actions or order plant shutdowns in emergency situations.
  • Monitor nuclear facility operations to identify any design, construction, or operation practices that violate safety regulations and laws or could jeopardize safe operations.
  • Develop and write sophisticated procedures for the modification and/or operation of facility, equipment, and processes.
  • Examine accidents to obtain data for use in design of preventive measures.
  • Direct operating or maintenance activities of nuclear facility to ensure efficiency and conformity to safety standards.
  • Develop, ensure adequacy of, and maintain configuration management and the technical baseline of multiple systems and component groups.
  • Support facility operations, maintenance personnel, & project personnel to ensure assigned process systems & equipment are operated, maintained, & modified to meet operational & research needs within the system applicable baseline, & applicable standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Level 2: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in the same fields of study.
  • Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in the same fields of study and 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience commensurate with level. Relevant experience to include knowledge and experience in application of Industrial Control Systems programming, instrumentation, networking, and troubleshooting.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.


Job Information:



  • The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($77,628 - $159,228) / Level 3 ($93,204 - $191,076). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP-Testing Designated Position: You will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.


Physical Requirements:



  • While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required.
