JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Summary

The Esports Coach will report to the Learning Commons & Esports Manager and will serve as coach for at least one esports team per semester. Coaching duties include team recruitment strategies, conducting team tryouts, scheduling and facilitation of practices, putting together scrimmages, attending competitions, creating a healthy competitive environment. The Esports Coach also serves as the liaison between student-athletes and instructors to ensure academic success, eligibility, and the development of NTC's Success Skills, which include effective communication, critical thinking, integrity, and respect for diversity. The schedule for this position will primarily consist of evenings hours during the fall and spring semesters with occasional weekend events and coverage in the Esports Arena.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.

Recruitment and Outreach

  • Develop recruitment strategies for the team in collaboration with the Learning Commons Manager.

  • Conduct outreach to NTC students and local high school players to seek prospective student-athletes for the NTC Esports Program.

  • Communicate frequently with esports staff on team progress and develop content to build interest in the program.

  • Promote the E-Sports program through social media, campus events, and community outreach.

Practice & Competition

  • Coordinate and facilitate team tryouts to create a well-rounded and skilled team.

  • Schedule and facilitate weekly practices, coordinate scrimmages, and coach team at competitions.

  • Develop team strategies and plans for competitive play.

Leadership and Mentoring

  • Represent NTC Esports in high regard, not only within the college community, but also with the broader and local communities which includes associations, fellow higher education institutes, high schools, parents, prospective students, and local community partners.

  • Foster inclusion, growth, and team cohesion within the team.

  • Build proactive relationships with the student athletes to support their academic achievement and progress in their programs.

Other

  • Attend internal and external events to promote the Esports program.

  • Facilitate events, camps, clinics, and tours as needed.

  • Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the arena.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required

In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Education: Associate's Degree (or Equivalent)

Experience:1 Year

Additional Experience Information:

  • Coaching, gaming, and skill in applicable games preferred, but not required.
