Communications Assistant

Join AIR as aCommunications Assistantand make a difference, improving the quality of life for individuals and communities in low and middle income countries. The Communications Assistant will develop, deliver, and maintain communications products and processes focused on food security and early warning topics to support the FEWS NET Learning and Data Hub. The Communications Assistant will focus on communications and social media activities for external audiences, supporting messaging and content creation across platforms for consistent delivery of high-quality communications representing FEWS NET as a whole. In addition, the Communications Assistant will contribute to regular project reporting and general communications tasks. The Communications Assistant achieves this through expertise in communications practices, technical writing, graphic design, and software applications supporting online communications, learning, and documentation.

This position may be based remotely within the U.S. or from one of AIR's U.S. office locations (excluding U.S. territories).

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, deliver, and maintain communications synthesis documents, public messaging media content, and standardized communications materials including written and visual content.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into accessible reporting, communications products, and other value-added products.
  • Coordinatecampaigns including email blasts, press releases, and social media engagements.
  • Develop infographics and related visual elements for communications products using appropriate tools within the Adobe Creative Suite or comparable products.
  • Contribute to social media platforms managed by the Hub as part of the broader FEWS NET outreach strategy.
  • Support routine task order communications such as quarterly reports. Write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences.


Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, computer science, data analytics, international development, or related field.
  • Two to three years of relevant work experience. Demonstrated experience in communications practices including technical writing, social media, communications campaigns, and visual content development.
  • Experience working with social media tools such as Hootsuite, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Youtube.
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop or comparable products. Proven experience in technical writing, with a focus on data and analysis is a plus but not required.
  • Background in international development is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity and interest in working on social media strategies in partnership with government agencies, such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is preferred but not required.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
