Job Title: Field Engineer

Location: Austin, TX 73301

Duration: 3 Months

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated Wireless Field Test Engineer to support the validation and verification of wireless communication systems, including 3G, 4G, and 5G technologies. The role will involve executing test cases, troubleshooting RF and protocol layer issues, and analyzing performance using industry-standard tools and platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field testing using commercial and pre-commercial handsets across 3G/4G/5G networks.
  • Validate SW and HW functionality on platforms using Qualcomm modem chipsets.
  • Execute test cases focused on physical/MAC/protocol/application layers.
  • Use tools like QXDM, QCAT, TEMS, XCAL for log collection and issue diagnosis.
  • Analyze test data, identify performance issues, and report bugs.
  • Coordinate with development teams to assist in debugging and feature verification.
  • Travel as needed for on-site field testing, including city and highway drive testing.



Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.



Required Experience:

  • 0-4 years of experience in wireless testing or telecommunications.
  • Prior exposure to field testing or drive testing environments.
  • Experience working with commercial handsets and/or operator testing teams.
  • Familiarity with digital communication concepts such as:
  • CDMA, OFDM, RF Propagation, Telecommunication protocols, Cloud Testing.



Required Skills:

  • Strong understanding of wireless communication principles.
  • Hands-on experience with handset testing across different radio access technologies (3G/4G/5G).
  • Proficient in using Qualcomm tools: QXDM, QCAT, XCAL, TEMS.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License and willingness to drive for field testing (40+ hours/week).



Preferred Qualifications:

Exposure to:

  • Air interface performance analysis and optimization
  • Call processing and MAC/PHY layer concepts
  • Wireline/wireless data protocols: RLP, PPP, IP, TCP, IPv6
  • Cloud-based test environments and data analysis platforms
  • Programming/Scripting knowledge in C, Perl, Shell
  • Familiarity with SIP, IMS, and IP telephony standards
