About the Job

Position Overview:

Director of Finance is responsible for ensuring that all key stakeholders and leadership receive accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis in order to make strategic financial decisions. The Director of Finance will partner with University Department leaders, and work collaboratively across wings and with the Center of Operational Excellent (budget, provider compensation and productivity, financial reporting, and operations/scheduling) to make recommendations to help the organization achieve its financial goals. Director of Finance will lead a team of CSU financial analysts and provide ongoing training & development to finance team and operational leaders to improve financial literacy of clinical decision makers.

Roles Responsibilities:

50%: Supervision and development of CSU analyst team

  • Provide clear strategic guidance to team of high-level CSU analysts to complete key financial functions for the organization
  • Oversee and coordinate standardized financial reporting, analysis, and budgeting using unified sources of truth to support organization's financial targets.
  • Help prioritize the workflow of financial analyst team.
  • Strengthen financial analyst's ability to perform complex analyses, analyze/explain trends, and present to operational leaders.
  • Ensure financial analysts are providing adequate support to operational leaders by monitoring an adjusting to leader feedback.
  • Provide coaching and development opportunities. Proactively reach out to gain feedback on analyst performance from key stakeholders.
  • Ensure consistent level of service across all CSUs, all leaders are seeing information in similar formats consistent with University and UMP leadership preferences
  • Encourage cross training and diffusion of best practices to the entire group

25%: CSU Liaison to University Department Leadership

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with University CSU leaders including Department Chairs, Finance Directors, HR Managers, and Department Administrators
  • Act as strategic partner for University CSU leaders to implement organizational priorities
  • Maintain an in depth understanding of both clinical and academic financial sides of the University and UMP, and how clinical and academic finances interact and affect one another
  • Be the point person for the Dean's Office on matters that impact CSU financials, and likewise communicate to the Dean's Office for CSU clinical initiatives that will impact University academic finances

25%: CSU Liaison to Center of Operational Excellence

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with COE leaders including Budget Manager, Reporting Manager, Faculty Compensation Manager, UMP Contracting, UMP data analytics, etc.
  • Act as strategic partner for COE leaders to implement organizational priorities across the CSUs
  • Maintain an in depth understanding of COE functions and capabilities, proactive suggest ways that COE processes and technology can be implemented into CSU core functions
  • Be the point person for the COE on matters that impact CSU financials, and likewise communicate to the COE leaders for CSU clinical initiatives that will impact University academic finances
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree with ten or more years of experience in a comparably large and complex healthcare or academic organization, including management or supervisory experience.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to foster a professional and positive working environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal/external stakeholders in a highly collaborative manner.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in leading and implementing process improvement.
  • Ability to translate financial concepts to and effectively collaborate with programmatic colleagues who may not have financial backgrounds.
  • A successful track record in setting priorities and demonstrating keen analytic, organizational and problem solving skills to support and enable sound decision making.
  • Excellent technical skills with high proficiency in the analytical application of relevant computer software packages (e.g. Excel, Access, and BI).
  • Demonstrated ability and experience developing, supporting and implementing financial improvement initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or certification.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the financial management of a Medical School and/or health care organization or physician group.
  • Knowledge of managing and implementing physician compensation plans, and analyzing physician and Principal Investigator productivity.
  • Experience in the financial management of research grants, philanthropic accounts, and clinical trials.
  • Extensive experience in short-term and long-term financial business planning and contracting.
  • Management experience requiring executive level interaction.
  • Leading teams in a hybrid remote-work environment.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $165,000 - $180,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
