The expected hiring range for this position is: $77,600.00-$110,267.00.

About the Role: Fermilab's Finance Organization seeks a Senior Financial Analyst to assist in the financial activities of the laboratory. Under minimum supervision and based on extensive knowledge of financial procedures, this individual will provide detailed cost/ expenditure information and analyses of significant budget elements or complex budget projects. What your day-to-day as a Senior Financial Analyst will look like:
- Participates in the preparation, consolidation and submission of the annual budgetary submission to the U.S. Department of Energy for assigned segments of the budget of the organization or project to which assigned.
- Prepares budget projections and forecasts for out-year financial planning based on guidance from the Laboratory Directorate, information regarding the Laboratory's operations and experimental programs, anticipated equipment and facility upgrades, capital project plans, historical data and input from others within the organization. Consolidates information summarizing financial data for specific cost categories (personnel, materials and services, etc.) and/or specific projects or operations; conducts periodic reviews of costs and obligations for assigned segments of the budget; analyzes unexpected outcomes and trends; presents reports for review and discussion with senior management of the organization(s) to which assigned.
- Conducts periodic reviews of Construction and Equipment Work-in-Process. Determines whether and when items are ready to be capitalized or otherwise reclassified as an asset.
- Analyzes Effort Reporting for consistency with manpower and cost estimates and investigates unexpected results and/or significant variances. Communicates findings to Manager as appropriate to coordinate and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Provides guidance to others in the assigned organization(s) regarding a specific type or range of financial activity. Coordinates, oversees or guides a major financial/administrative activity, such as inventory/property management, procurements and/or procurement tracking, personnel/employment information or similar business functions.
- Assists with enterprise software implementation and maintenance (EPM and ERP), including user system testing, the development of user documentation and reports, and training other employees in the group. May serve as lead employee based on level of knowledge of a particular software/system by providing oversight and guidance to other employees.
- Develops methods and procedures for specific budgeting and/or financial activities within the assigned organization(s).
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
Skills and Attributes for Success:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field with 3-5+ years of experience or any equivalent combination of education or experience.
Applicable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- 3-5 years of Budgeting and Planning experience
- 3-5 years of experience in an analytical type of role
- Experience analyzing large amounts of data, data management, statistical analysis, report design and presentation
- Experience with Oracle (Hyperion) Planning, PBCS, SAP BPC, OneStream, Oracle EBS (ERP, Financials) and SAP S/4HANA Cloud ERP. A combination of 2 or 3 would be preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with accounting and financial modeling
- Excellent Excel skills including Complex Modeling Proficiency
- Demonstrated ability to provide value to cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Able to work independently within a team environment
- Strong statistical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Positive attitude and a willingness to learn additional skills
- Ability and desire to learn new systems
- Experience with data transformation and integration (ETL - Extract, Transform and Load)
- Experience with Oracle and/or MS Access databases a plus.
