Hiring Range
The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The salary range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $66,000 - $76.000.

About the Job
Under direct supervision of the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Health & Well-Being, the Occupational Health & Wellness Coordinator ensures the programs and services provided by Occupational Health serve the campus in accordance with the mission, vision and values of the department and have a campus wide impact. The Occupational Health & Wellness Coordinator participates in developing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating Occupational Health education programs, services and initiatives while ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations for these programs to ensure the health and welfare of the campus community and to prevent illness and promote health. This position requires understanding of occupational health promotion and disease prevention for a campus community and medical surveillance programs targeting various occupational health needs in an academic setting. Coordinates special outreach activities and events. Participates in public health related projects that fall under this department with strict adherence to confidentiality. Attends and participates in relevant health and safety meetings and committees, as needed. In addition, this position will assist with supporting the day-to-day operations of the department as needed, such as serving as the primary contact for calls and visits to the clinic, collecting and analyzing data about clinic operations, coordinating Cal-OSHA required employee medical surveillance with medical providers. Also assists with schedule coordination for the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Health & Well-Being. Key Responsibilities:
- EMPLOYEE HEALTH AND WELLNESS: In coordination with the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Health & Well-Being and the Occupational Health medical providers, works to lead the development, management, implementation and evaluation of employee wellness programs. Develop and implement short and long range plans for programs to best address future growth. Collaborate closely with campus and systemwide partners to create best practices within each program. Represent UC Merced at systemwide meetings such as Healthy Campus Network and WorkStrong. Assist with additional programming as needed. Coordinates and maintains campus and community partner communication related to Occupational Health projects and programs. Participates in developing and implementing health and safety training programs for employees and student employees related to Occupational Health. Collaborates with Student Health Services and other campus partners to establish and recommend changes to maintain compliance with federal and state requirements and internal policies.
- WELLNESS PROGRAM COORDINATOR AND HEALTH & WELLNESS COACH: Presents and/or coordinates group classes and programs on a variety of subject areas of identified need, such as Diabetes Prevention Program, WorkStrong, Warm up to Work. Serves as an employee health and wellness liaison between Occupational Health and Human Resources. Potential to serve as a Health & Wellness Coach to employees to assist them in reaching their health and wellness goals with regular behavior counseling.
- INFECTIOUS DISEASE REPORTING, COMPLIANCE AND PREVENTION: Completes federal, state, university-regulated mandatory reporting, as necessary, for infectious disease. Reviews guidelines and updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Merced Department of Public Health and Cal-OSHA. Responsible for communicating and educating others on the applicable findings. Participates in committees and groups associated with immunization activities, serving as a resource to staff for current vaccination information. Maintains the Occupational Health webpage with up-to-date information, including information related to communicable diseases such as the COVID-19 dashboard that complies with campus notifications, as well as required by California Labor Code.
- DATA ANALYSIS: Analyzes and collects data derived from phone, email and survey communication with faculty, staff, and student employees related to health promotion and education to identify trends and provides statistical reports. Assists with sharing of collected data by designing and formatting reports for ease of presentation and understanding. Assesses the effectiveness of course content and training techniques for individual programs/classes and revises as needed.
- ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT: Works directly with the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Health & Well-Being to provide support in managing and maintaining complex administrative and clinical schedules; coordinate logistics and scheduling of meetings, workshops, orientations, seminars and special events including rooms reservations, parking, catering and providing details of events to others, as needed; responsible for submitting travel reimbursements and when needed, arranging travel.
- OTHER DUTIES: Other duties as assigned such as various routine administrative tasks that support the operations of the Occupational Health department. Tasks include but are not limited to: help develop procedures related to the day-to-day operations of the department such as related to patient reception, telephone processing, scheduling, and patient flow to ensure consistently prompt, effective service to patients and visitors, responding to patient/visitor questions in the office, managing staff schedules, developing and revising clinic procedures, coordinating the purchase of items for the office and department events, providing monthly program activity and impact data to supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an approved program in public health or related field from an accredited institution; and/or
- Advanced degree in Public Health from an accredited institution (preferred); and
- Three or more years of directly related experience (required); and
- Experience working in Community related outreach (required); and
- Experience working in a university/college environment (preferred).
- Skills associated with both the development and delivery of health education programs and services.
- Effective interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse client groups.
- Effective organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to analyze, interpret and respond to client needs.
- Nationally recognized certification as a Health and Wellness Coach Preferred
