Job Summary

The Director of Educational Technology & Academic Systems leads enterprise-wide innovation in digital learning, academic platforms, and institutional data strategy.
Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, this role is responsible for shaping the future of technology-enabled education and data systems across the Schools of Medicine and Nursing. The Director oversees a high-impact team and manages strategic software development and academic IT systems that support clinical education, compliance, and institutional transformation.

Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this role establishes objectives and work plans, assigns responsibilities to direct reports, and ensures adherence to internal controls, performance expectations, and institutional objectives. This position actively participates in the development and implementation of organizational IT policy and educational data governance frameworks.

The Director also leads the design and evolution of academic data infrastructure, including dashboards, pipelines, and analytics environments that support continuous improvement and accreditation reporting. This role ensures that data is accessible, reliable, and actionable in support of institutional planning and learner success. The incumbent identifies opportunities for innovation, ensures compliance, manages risk, and drives service improvements that support the evolving needs of the Schools of Medicine and Nursing, while maintaining alignment with UC Davis Health's strategic and operational priorities.

In addition to educational and clinical systems, the Director also supports administrative and operational technology needs across the School of Medicine and School of Nursing. This includes ensuring integrated support for business functions and data use cases.

This role requires a visionary, collaborative, and results-driven IT leader who can guide complex, cross-functional teams, deliver high-quality services, and drive innovation at the intersection of education, technology, and healthcare. The ideal candidate brings extensive management experience, a strategic mindset, and the ability to operate at both tactical and executive levels within a large, matrixed organization.
