Salary Range:$130,000-$160,000

This is a full-timeposition located in Fort Worth, TX. For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely. Our leaders also foster a culture where work life balance, which requires flexibility for when life happens, is important and respected.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in supervising railroad litigation, including general claims, and other disputes.

Respond in person to emergency situations that may develop on the railroad.

Assist with development of defense strategies for BNSF.

Assist with trials on occasion.

Supervise Outside Counsel

Serve as liaison with General Claims Department

Develop trial strategy and tactics

Respond to subpoenas and demands for indemnity; and other litigation matters

Manage discovery matters

This person will also perform other litigation-related duties as assigned. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as this person must interact with personnel from all levels of the Company.

Should be knowledgeable in the following areas of law: Federal Employers Liability Act, grade crossing litigation, trespasser claims, occupational claims, toxic tort, indemnity and insurance.

Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Able to work in the US without company sponsorship now AND in the future.
  • J.D. Degree
  • Current law license (Texas preferred, but not mandatory)
  • 2 - 7 years of practice

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience as a practicing lawyer (in-house, law firm or government) with litigation experience, with personal injury litigation or relevant railroad legal experience preferred.
  • Candidate should possess strong negotiation skills and ability to build consensus and communicate compelling legal/business justification for position.
  • Must possess excellent legal research, verbal and written communication skills and ability to handle complex and challenging assignments with extremely short turnaround deadlines.
  • Candidate should possess knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Westlaw research system and other web-based legal research tools.
  • Experience writing and arguing sophisticated motions and briefs; taken and defended depositions, to include experts; conducted investigations, and has made court appearances. Prior trial experience is preferred.
  • Resume, references, non-confidential writing samples, and law school transcript may be required.
