Job Description:

Job Summary
  • Utilizes deep knowledge of GAAP to perform financial accounting activities for complex areas of Accounting. Researches and analyzes financial data and technical accounting guidance, communicates findings to Finance Leaders, and provides recommendations for mitigation. Provides accounting expertise in preparing estimates and demonstrates professional skepticism. Prepares documentation and analytics to validate and support internal and external financial reporting.
  • This Sr Accountant joins the Financial Reporting Team, where they'll have a focused support on SEC and various regulatory compliance reporting. This role and their Team play an integral part in Southwest's financial reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a financial resource to multiple levels of Business Leadership by performing analysis of financial results to identify trends and provide insights to support decision-making
  • Conduct variance analysis to explain discrepancies between planned and actual financial performance; investigate cause of variances, identify trends, and monitor impacts to key performance indicators
  • Analyze and review various types of transactions for financial completeness and accuracy; prepare presentations for management as needed
  • Create and implement testing scenarios for technology based projects and system upgrades; act as a subject matter expert for Team on projects related to their areas of Accounting.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and create recommendations for implementation
  • Prepare and review financial statements for internal/external filings in accordance with GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and company policy
  • Prepare and present complex financial information to different audiences, including finance leaders, business partners, and auditors.
  • Analyzes financial data for accuracy; identifies problems and prepares forecasts to support financial planning
  • Perform month end close tasks that may include posting journal entries, performing reconciliations, and managing asset creation and retirement processes on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Support the annual audit process, including ensuring financial transactions are substantiated with proper documentation for auditing purposes
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial data with minimal supervision
  • Skilled in managing time effectively through organizing and appropriately prioritizing work and seeking guidance as needed to resolve issues/questions in order to meet deadlines
  • Skilled in proactively using resources to learn, understand, and investigate issues related to completing the financial close process
  • Ability to effectively communicate, written and verbally, information and ideas using all forms of communication, learning to adjust tone, style and content to meet the audience's needs
  • Ability to develop relationships and build trust with Team Members and Customers
  • Ability to support and provide help to the Team to ensure accuracy and completeness of tasks
  • Ability to update account narratives and process documentation to explain their desk responsibilities from beginning to end
  • Ability to articulate how complex research and analysis was performed in preparing analytics in support of financial reporting
  • Ability to demonstrate executive presence in front of all levels of management and represent the department at cross-functional meetings
  • Ability to handle situations of complexity with guidance from Lead / Department Leadership
  • Ability to establish personal best practices to manage responsibilities
  • Skilled in asking insightful questions and listening to understand all perspectives with a solid understanding of Business impacts
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
Experience
  • Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
    • Accounting principles and practices
    • Financial statements and reports

  • Ability to perform work duties from limited space work station/desk/office area for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company information
  • Must have flexibility to work extended hours during the week and weekend, including Company holidays, during quarterly close or special projects

Pay & Benefits

  • Competitive market salary from $100,700 per year to $111,900 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
