Job Family Description

Emergency Services personnel safeguard individuals, property, and assets against potential emergencies. They assess emergency risks, develop continuity of operations (COOP) plans, implement trainings, drills, facility qualifications, and establish preventative measures. They ensure compliance with emergency preparedness/response procedures and requirements.

Discipline Description

Emergency response roles are critical for effectively managing and responding to various emergencies and disasters. Emergency response professionals operate in a 24-hour communication center and support site safety systems, coordinate emergency protective actions, provide support services for emergency responses and emergency preparedness drills, relay critical information during emergencies and drills, and dispatch fire and emergency medical services resources.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Emergency Duty Officer (EDO)
EDOs manage day-to-day operations for SRSOC.
EDOs manage day-to-day functions for all site emergencies and non-emergent responses.
EDOs are accountable for shift's performance and results of their personnel.
EDOs approve TACS for designated shift.
Responsible for standing watch in SRSOC to monitor and respond to fire and other alarms and emergency calls
Responsible for completing a watchbill at the beginning of each shift
Maintain shift qualifications
Directs the activities of ECSs in order to maintain site support and safety systems
Area Emergency Coordinator (AEC)
Responsible for completing all official notifications as stated in procedures
Security and Fire Alarm System (SFAS) Operator
Determine onsite protective actions for SRS personnel
Maintain and review the Daily Activity Log
Determine whether an emergency evacuation is warranted or a phased approach can be taken by SRSOC personnel to prevent a disruption of SRSOC operations to the site
Assess events and determine requirement for categorization/classification
Coordinate request for SRS assistance to offsite agencies
The senior ranking on-duty shift member and shift supervisor in SRSOC trained in emergency response actions and command and control functions.
Support the SRS SIRIM Program
Track and notify remote workers
Serve as DOE 24-hour point of contact

Required Qualifications

* Associate's degree in relevant field plus completion of applicable certification or on-the-job training plus at least three years of experience (YOE) in an applicable role, OR High school diploma plus completion of applicable certification or on-the-job training plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in an applicable role
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
