The French lab at The Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota is looking to recruit a highly motivated researcher to join our multi-disciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biochemistry, structural biology, cellular metabolism and the enzymology of metabolic proteins. Training and expertise in the biophysical characterization of proteins, assay development, and advanced microscopy is particularly desired. Experience with the characterization of nucleotide metabolic proteins will be considered a strong asset. The lab has a number of NIH- and NSF-funded basic and translational research projects including the characterization of higher order structures of proteins involved in nucleotide metabolism, the identification of novel nucleobase transport proteins, the discovery and development of immunomodulatory inhibitors as drug leads, and mechanistic studies of signal transduction in photoactive proteins. The selected candidate would be expected to work independently as an intellectual leader in at least one major project area and contribute to other research in the lab. This position provides an excellent learning opportunity and access to state-of-the-art resources and facilities, including top-of-the-line instruments for structural biology, cell biology, microscopy and the biophysical characterization of proteins. Research, including design, implementation, oversight and analysis of experiments - 75% * Read the current research literature to familiarize oneself with the field and to help plan future work. Science communication - 10% * Generate figures (graphs, schema, structure models, etc.) to illustrate results of research. Regular maintenance and administration in the lab - 5% * Regular cleaning and disinfection of lab spaces. Training and development - 5% * Participation in seminars and workshops (in-person or online) to learn new skills relevant to the lab's research mission.
