Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Nuclear Fuel Engineer to work in our Fuel Development, Performance & Qualification department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

You will apply nuclear engineering principles and methods to design, develop, test, and analyze nuclear fuel and nuclear fuel experiments. This position is part of the INL Nuclear Nexus.

Responsibilities:



  • Assist in leadership and coordination of light water reactor fuel, water loop irradiation experiment programs.
  • Participate on irradiation experiment design teams. Lead design conceptualization activities.
  • Assist in the collection and analysis of poolside nondestructive examination data.
  • Conduct fuel performance simulations to model fuel temperature, fission gas release, plenum pressure, cladding strain, and cladding oxidation.
  • Interfacing with numerous different internal and external organizations.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities



  • Knowledge of light water reactor fuel performance and fuel performance codes
  • Knowledge of light water reactor system performance and system performance codes
  • Use of computer aided design and/or data analysis software
  • Organization and communication skills

Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:



    • Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering or directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 2 years.
    • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.


    The Ideal Candidate Will Have:



    • Advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering or directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution.
    • Experience in nuclear fuels and materials, reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, core design, analysis tools/methods, and/or closely related technical areas.


    Job Information:



    • The pay range for this position is Level 2 ($77,628 - $159,228). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.


    Physical Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required.
