General Summary
The Emergency Response Specialist is an experienced professional who will develop and deliver safety training companywide on First Aid - CPR, emergency response and other topics. The ERS possesses outstanding public presentation skills that capture the audience's attention for improved learning. The ERS will assist with other EH&S functions at Penumbra including safety documents, incident investigations, and risk analysis. The candidate builds productive working relationships and collaborates with Penumbra teams to realize safety goals. The ERS partners with regulatory agencies and responds to emergency situations, as needed.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
* Develop, schedule and present employee safety training including, but not limited to, First Aid - CPR, Fire Extinguisher, Emergency Response Team, bloodborne pathogens, evacuation chairs, and evacuation drills. *
* Utilize in-person presentations, Microsoft Teams, PenLearn, and other formats to present emergency response training. *
* Purchase and maintain emergency equipment and supplies, and ensure their accessibility and functionality, including but not limited to, automated external defibrillators (AED), fire extinguishers, emergency eyewash bottles, emergency evacuation chairs. *
* Conduct inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards, develop mitigation strategies, and follow up to ensure improvements have been implemented. *
* Develop, implement, and review EH&S programs including, but not limited to, emergency response procedures, safety metrics, the Emergency Action Plan, and health and safety regulations. *
* Manage site specific emergency response and drills. *
* Establish collaborative relationships with local emergency services and private sector safety partners. *
* Provide consultation and advice to leadership during actual emergencies, including coordinating evacuations, medical emergencies, search and rescue operations by the fire and police departments, as necessary. *
* Investigate incidents using the EH&S Investigations Checklist per CAL-OSHA requirements and best practices. Administer After Action Reviews (AAR) of emergencies to improve future response. *Actively participate in Penumbra's Safety Committee. * 1 of 3
* Manage documentation and records on EH&S programs including, but not limited to, CAL-OSHA, Fed-OSHA, FDA, Alameda County, Placer County, other State and local authorities, fire department and CUPA (Certified Unified Public Agency). *
* Complete all required training for professional development. *
* Adhere to the Company's Quality Management System (QMS) as well as domestic and global quality system regulations, standards, and procedures. *
* Understand relevant security, privacy and compliance principles and adhere to the regulations, standards, and procedures that are applicable to the Company. *
* Ensure other members of the department follow the QMS, regulations, standards, and procedures. *

Position Qualifications
Minimum education and experience:
* Bachelor's degree in emergency management, public safety, occupational safety and health, engineering, or related field with 3+ years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional qualifications:
* Certification in emergency management or a related field including train-the-trainer on First Aid and CPR, bloodborne pathogens, fire extinguishers, and other related programs.
* At least 5 years or more of experience in emergency response and/or disaster management as a firefighter, paramedic, and/or emergency medical technician.
* Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Certified Emergency Disaster Professional (CEDP) credentials, and/or Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) desired.
* HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) desired.
* Knowledge of compliance to FED-OSHA and California's OSHA general industry safety orders that apply to facilities-related activities.
* Medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated industry experience.
* Ability to make decisions and take appropriate actions in emergencies.
* Experience in disaster management and emergency response protocols to effectively coordinate rescue and recovery operations.
* Keen attention to detail and organizational skills to manage resources, plan strategies and document incidents.
* Proficient knowledge of first aid procedures, evacuation protocols, and safety measures.
* Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Working Conditions
* General office, laboratory, cleanroom, shipping and receiving environments
* Willingness and ability to work on site with estimated business travel from 25% - 50%
* Requires flexible working hours covering all shifts and may work extra time, weekends, and/or holidays occasionally.
* Will be assigned to perform work in other Penumbra facilities/locations, as needed.
* Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens
* Requires some lifting and moving of up to 25 pounds
* Must be able to move between buildings and floors.
* Must be able to remain stationary and use a computer or other standard office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine, for an extensive period of time each day.
* Must be able to read, prepare emails, and produce documents and spreadsheets.
* Must be able to move within the office and access file cabinets or supplies, as needed.
* Must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information with employees at all levels on a daily basis.

Annual Base Salary Range: $74,070 - $102,823
