Machinist - Nuclear
The machinist is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of machine tools, including both CNC and manual machines, to produce precision parts and instruments. They fabricate and modify parts to repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. Must be able to obtain nuclear unescorted access, including meeting fitness for duty requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Set up and operate CNC, NC, lathes, and semi-automatic machines.
- Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
- Follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform job functions.
- Study blueprints, layouts, and sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Verify completed work within the tolerance limits stated in the specifications.
- Maintain a clean work area and practice good housekeeping.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience.
- Prior nuclear power plant experience, highly desired.
- Must be able to obtain nuclear unescorted access, including fitness for duty requirements.
- Successful completion of all training including, Radiation Worker Training, Plant Access Training, Fitness for Duty, etc.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to assemble and disassemble objects and operate small equipment and power tools.
- Availability for shift work, if needed.
- Ability to support other crafts as requested.
- Ability to work at varying heights, in cramped quarters, extreme heat and/or cold, and loud environments (above 89 decibels).
- Knowledge of relevant processes and procedures.
- Ability to obtain and maintain knowledge of technical manuals and procedures.
- Ability to pass specific training and qualifications.
- Willingness to work overtime, including shift work, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to pass all background and screening requirements, including drug and/or alcohol screening.
