About the Position The Research Analyst supports the efforts of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office by collecting and analyzing data, including patrol and detention data, to identify trends and make recommendations for proactive data-driven decisions. - Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Public Administration, Public Policy, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience
- Two (2) years of professional analytical experience.
OR Combined education and experience qualifications
- Other combinations of education or experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year for year basis.
Other requirements
- Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.
- Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
- Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.
Our Preferred Candidate has
- Master's degree in Statistics, Public Administration, Public Policy, Criminal Justice, Business Administration or other closely related field.
- Experience with Criminal Justice data and program evaluation.
- Experience with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS).
- Four (4) years of experience with data analytics, quality assurance, data analysis and/or any other type of closely related work experience.

Essential Job Tasks (This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)
- Interprets MCSO data and analyzes results using appropriate statistical techniques.
- Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends in complex data sets.
- Communicates analysis in a comprehensive and "non-technical" manner.
- Assists MCSO, and other criminal justice agencies in sharing appropriate information to support making criminal justice system decisions.
- Recommends and implements evidence-based practices to assist patrol and detention functions.
- Makes policy recommendations to command staff based on data analysis.
- Prepares and distributes weekly, monthly, and annual reports as needed.
- Assesses the reporting and data needs of MCSO and other criminal justice partners.
- Develops specifications for standard and ad-hoc JMS reporting.
- Participates in committees and workgroups.
- Identifies necessary data capture points of various inmate programs to assess a programs outcome as related to recidivism and desired successes.
- Supports the evaluation process of inmate programs by providing detailed analysis.
- Assists with identifying inmate programs that can be interlinked to allow more structured curricula for inmates in custody, thus enhancing their ability to rejoin the community with higher success rates and positive contributions.
- Attends meetings or presentations to further the collection and analysis of data.
- Represents the Office or unit by traveling as needed.
- Participates with the analytical team and contributes toward common projects within MCSO.
- Manages data from the jails to correlate incoming new data with data already stored.
- Analyzes, evaluates, and correlates information from multiple sources to develop new links between individual inmates or groups of inmates involved in jail programs to distinguish patterns/trends.
- Creates and prepares various documents (e.g., memos, official letters, bulletins) to disseminate information or statistics for the Office, other requesting law enforcement agencies, or County departments.
