Position Overview
Access Management is a critical component of Security and Compliance within KU Information Technology. Reporting to the Account Security Coordinator, this position is responsible for managing the daily operations of Access Management and ensuring secure and appropriate access to all University of Kansas enterprise systems and services. The goal is to safeguard the integrity of the university's central academic and administrative databases and systems.

This role involves creating, maintaining, and revoking user access to these systems, following established request and approval processes. The incumbent collaborates with security operations teams to develop and maintain procedural documentation and implement automation wherever possible. Adherence to the security standards, policies, and procedures of KU Information Technology, the University, and the State of Kansas is essential. The IT Analyst must be proficient in enterprise systems, authentication protocols, and offer guidance and support to system users.

Given the critical nature of access management, this role requires year-round, continuous support. The employee must exercise discretion, good judgment, and initiative in all tasks, ensuring compliance with university policies. All ITSO personnel must adhere to University security policies and annually sign a confidentiality agreement.

KU is not able to provide H-1B sponsorship for this position.

Job Description
Account Management & Administration (60%)
  • Administer user accounts across KU IT-managed enterprise systems (email, web servers, databases), including creating, modifying, and revoking access.
  • Collaborate with departmental administrators to ensure appropriate approval and access controls.
  • Ensure that only authorized users can access data, monitoring and auditing accounts to comply with KU and IT security policies.
  • Analyze, document, and streamline access management processes, automating where feasible.
  • Manage distribution lists, accounts, and groups with access to network resources.
Support & Problem Resolution (20%)
  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing support to faculty, staff, students, and departments (KU main campus, KUMC, and Regents Center) on security access issues.
  • Offer consultation for password issues, system access problems, and general security inquiries.
  • Collaborate with technical and application teams to resolve complex access-related issues.
  • Contribute to system documentation and knowledge base resources, updating content as needed to aid in problem resolution.
Special Projects & Other Duties (20%)
  • Supervise a small team of student staff, delegating tasks and providing mentorship.
  • Attend and actively contribute to Support Services meetings, reporting on project progress and relevant updates.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings as related to assigned projects or tasks.

Required Qualifications
  1. High school diploma and four (4) years of experience OR associate's degree with two (2) years of experience or bachelor's degree.
  2. Three (3) years of customer service experience in an academic or corporate setting.
  3. One (1) year of managing user access to systems, including creating, modifying, or revoking accounts.
  4. Two (2) years of experience using Microsoft Office products, especially Outlook.
  5. Three (3) years working with databases and/or spreadsheets for detailed record-keeping.
  6. Two (2) years of experience in a collaborative, team environment as evidenced by application materials.
  7. Strong written communication skills, as demonstrated through application materials.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience with command-line interfaces (CLI) as evidenced by application materials.
  2. Prior experience in a higher education environment as evidenced by application materials.
  3. Completion of formal customer service training as evidenced by application materials.
  4. Experience developing, maintaining, or authoring knowledge bases or user documentation as evidenced by application materials.
  5. Experience working with network protocols and troubleshooting as evidenced in application materials.
  6. Experience with Active Directory (AD) or LDAP, including account management as evidenced by application materials.
  7. Written organizational skills as demonstrated in application materials.
