Sand Process Development Engineer

You'll drive innovation by developing cutting-edge processing methods and enhancing existing systems to meet the demands of next-generation products. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring your ideas from concept to production, ensuring seamless integration into Operations. Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of new quartz sand processing utilizing technical expertise in Chemical, Mechanical or Material Science Engineeringto meet new market/application demands.

  • Participate in new process introduction with cross-functional teams and internal/external validation partners.

  • Responsibilities include feasibility testing, prototyping, gauge development, pilot testing, cost analysis and scale up to manufacturing.

  • Apply project management skills in planning, budgeting, time management, resource allocation, and risk management.

  • Responsible for complete documentation and validation of process and equipment

  • Lead identification, mitigation, and elimination of safety exposures and ensure EHS compliance of new and modified processes.

  • Facilitate problem solving (root cause analysis) during process development with internal EHS, Quality, etc.) groups as needed.

  • Apply Six Sigma methodology, statistical, surface and materials characterization tools for process improvement, failure analysis and troubleshooting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Operations and/or Engineering in a manufacturing environment.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Material Science Engineering.

  • Expertise in chemical processing of inorganic materials including acid treatments and thermal processing.

  • Demonstrated Capital Project Management Skills including engagement and management of internal and external resources

  • Experience in statistical design and analysis of experimental data including design of experiment, hypothesis testing and Gage R&R.

  • Ability to collaborate with manufacturing, supplier, and customer to accomplish project objectives on time and within budget.

  • Ability to do hands-on work in an industrial environment with necessary PPE and interact and influence in a matrixed environment.

  • Good written and oral English communication skills

  • Experience working with statistical software such as Minitab.

  • A strong sense of accountability, urgency, and self-direction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Materials Engineering.

  • Prior experience in a full-time Process Engineering role

  • Experience with, or design of processing equipment such as calciners, continuous acid leaching systems, wet and dry physical separation systems, and inline measurement or sampling systems.

  • Understanding of basic mechanical, electrical and electronics systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems involved in operation of batch and continuous furnaces.

  • Prior experience mentoring and coaching others with demonstrated Change Management skills

  • Exhibits desire and courage to learn new skills and assume broader roles in the organization

  • Energetic self-starter with strong leadership skills

  • Exhibits a sense of urgency which translates to the floor

  • Proficient in:

    • Project Management and Leadership

    • Root Cause Analysis

    • Statistical Analysis and Interpretation

    • Designed Experiments a plus

    • Mechanical Design using Solidworks

The Sand Process Development Engineer will earn variable compensation including a base salary and bonus. Base salary range takes into consideration experience, education, and training. Not to mention all the amazing benefits available for employee selection as well.
