Purpose
FormFactor is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Semiconductor Process Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in thin film deposition and dry etch processes, with experience in semiconductor device fabrication. This role will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining thin film and dry etch processes to meet demanding product specifications and improve manufacturing efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Develop, optimize, and characterize thin film deposition (e.g., PVD) and dry etch processes (e.g., RIE, ICP) for semiconductor device fabrication.
  • Design and execute experiments (DOE) to improve process performance, yield, and reliability.
  • Utilize metrology techniques (e.g., XRF, 4PP, Eddy Current) to analyze and characterize thin films and etched structures.
  • Troubleshoot process issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Establish and maintain Statistical Process Control (SPC) to monitor process stability and capability.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including integration, device, and manufacturing engineers, to ensure seamless process integration and transfer.
  • Work closely with maintenance to perform and document preventative maintenance for the tool set.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, including process flows, work instructions, operations specifications, and maintenance specifications.
  • Evaluate and qualify new equipment and materials for thin film and dry etch processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.



Experience, Education and Skills Required


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field. Master's or Ph.D. preferred.
  • 5 + years of experience in semiconductor process engineering, with a focus on thin film deposition and dry etch.
  • Strong understanding of thin film deposition techniques (PVD) and dry etch processes (RIE, ICP) and equipment, including hands on work on the equipment.
  • Experience with semiconductor device fabrication processes and equipment, including troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE).
  • Experience with metrology tools for thin film and etch characterization (XRF, 4PP, Eddy Current).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment and follow safety protocols.



The pay range for this role in Beaverton, OR is between $115,800 and $151,935. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
