This job posting is for several different temporary election judge roles.
Voter Service and Polling Center (VSPC) Election Judges assist voters at Voter Service and Polling Centers located throughout Arapahoe County. Elections Ballot Processing Elections Judges assist in receiving and processing ballots at the Arapahoe County Elections Facility, and may assist with specialized functions such as signature verification, tabulation and ballot opening. Ballot Security Election Judges are responsible for daily collection of ballots from 24-hour ballot drop-off locations and Voter Service and Polling Centers (VSPCs).

Duties
-
- Voter Services and Polling Center (VSPC)
- VSPC Supervisor Election Judge - Responsible for the supervision and operations of the Voter Service and Polling Center location. This position requires Computer Skill Level 3 (Experienced).
- VSPC Assistant Supervisor Election Judge - Assists with the supervision and operations of the Voter Service and Polling Center location. This position requires Computer Skill Level 3 (Experienced).
- VSPC Greeter Election Judge - Responsible for welcoming voters, directing voters to the correct area of the Voter Service and Polling Center, and answering voter questions. This position requires Computer Skill Level 1 (Minimal).
- VSPC Registration Election Judge - Responsible for verifying voter identity, registering new voters, and updating current voter information. This position requires Computer Skill Level 3 (Experienced).
- VSPC Technical Election Judge - Responsible for issuing paper or mail ballots and preparing ballot marking devices for voters. This position requires Computer Skill Level 2 (Basic).
- Ballot Processing:
- Ballot Opening Election Judge - Workers will remove ballots from envelopes, identify damaged ballots, and prepare and flatten ballots for scanning and tabulation. This position requires Computer Skill Level 1 (Minimal).
- Signature Verification Election Judge - Workers will learn established Colorado Secretary of State signature verification guidelines, review signatures on ballot envelopes, and compare them to online data in the voter record. Teams work in collaboration to discuss any discrepant signatures. The entire shift is spent viewing and verifying data on a computer screen, so attention to detail and a high level of accuracy is needed. This position requires Computer Skill Level 3 (Experienced).
- Tabulation & Adjudication Election Judge - Workers will operate the ballot scanner computer, feed ballots into scanners, and enter ballot counts by batch into a computer. After processing, the scanned ballots will be boxed for secure storage. This position is available to returning election judges only. This position requires Computer Skill Level 3 (Experienced).
- Ballot Security:
- Ballot Security Election Judge - Ballot Security Judges are responsible for retrieving ballots and returning them to the Elections Facility. Election judges may transport voted ballots from VSPC (Voter Service and Polling Center) locations, 24-hour ballot drop boxes, the general mail facility and other ballot drop off locations. Applicants must have a good driving record, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with the assistance of a partner, be comfortable driving with another person in the same vehicle and be able to work some weekend days. This position requires Computer Skill Level 1 (Minimal).
- Healthcare Community Election Judge - Bipartisan teams will visit qualifying Health Care Communities throughout Arapahoe County. The teams meet at the Arapahoe County Elections Facility each morning, collect ballots and supplies for their assigned stops, deliver ballots to HCCs and, possibly, register new voters and issue ballots. Teams will deliver voted HCC ballots to the Elections Facility for processing. This position starts 3-4 weeks before Election Day, and may work Mondays - Fridays through Election Day. This position requires Computer Skill Level 2 (Basic).

- Knowledge of state statutes, regulations, procedures and forms applicable to Elections division operations.
- Personal communication skills enabling courteous and diplomatic interactions with elections watchers as well as establishing effective working relationships with other election judges and election staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally, electronically and in writing.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work long hours or weekends when needed.

- Ability to use personal cell phones for communication with elections staff and other election judges.

Requirements

Education, Experience and Requirements:
- Education: GED or high school diploma is required.
- 18 years of age or older
- A resident and registered to vote in Colorado
- Pass a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check
- Not a candidate or a relative to the 2nd degree of a candidate on the ballot
Additional Requirements: Ballot Security Election Judge:
- Must also pass a Colorado Motor Vehicle background check
- Responsible for operating county vehicle or rental vehicle

Supervision Received
- Receives immediate supervision from Election employees and/or Election Judge Leads. May also receive supervision from the Election Managers or the Deputy Director of Elections.
Interpersonal Contacts
- Contacts are with supervisors, management, peers, elected officials, the public, and/or vendors. Contacts require the ability to exercise a high degree of interpersonal skills to influence persons at all levels. Incumbent is accountable for the results of the contact.
Work Environment:
Ballot Processing Election Judge & VSPC Election Judge
- Work is confined to a standard office and warehouse setting.
Ballot Security Election Judge
- Work involves transporting ballot boxes and mail trays between the Arapahoe Elections Warehouse, the General Mail Facility, and various Voter Service and Polling Centers, Healthcare Facilities, Arapahoe County Jail, and ballot drop-off boxes.
- Work requires travel in a rental vehicle with other people.
Physical Demands:
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with these positions.
Ballot Processing Election Judge & VSPC Election Judge:
- Spends 80% of each day sitting and another 20% either walking or standing.
- Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication, as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.
- Eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling use of the office equipment.
- Visual capacity enabling operation of office and computer equipment.
- Occasionally lifts or carries up to 50 lbs, with the assistance of a co-worker.
Ballot Security Election Judge:
- Spends 40% of the time sitting and 60% of the time either standing, walking, twisting or bending.
- Frequently lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 50 lbs. Assistance from a co-worker is recommended.
- Uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 50 lbs.
- Frequently stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing work duties.
- Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of automated mail ballot machinery or equipment.
- Visual capacity enabling use of work related equipment, and passenger vehicles.
Definitions:
Occasionally: Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
Frequently: Activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.
Constantly: Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time.
