The opportunity

Reporting to the VP of Compliance, you will play an important role in the ongoing development and implementation of the University's Compliance Program. This role is critical in ensuring the institution follows legal and regulatory standards, and internal policies observing best practices for compliance programs as reflected by the U.S. Federal Sentencing Guidelines. You will develop and execute compliance policies, procedures, and training programs while monitoring adherence to these standards, identifying potential risks and implementing corrective actions. You will serve as a key contributor to the success of the University's Compliance Program, with responsibility for independently managing core tools and systems, such as the compliance matrix, and contributing to broader initiatives under the leadership of the VP of Compliance. This is an individual contributor role with significant cross-functional influence, requiring collaboration across departments but without direct supervisory responsibilities. You can work remotely in this role. #LI-Remote

What you'll do:

Core Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Help create, refine, and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and frameworks that align with regulatory and institutional requirements

  • Implement common criteria for conducting compliance related risk-based assessments, ensuring the University makes risk-aware decisions, promotes ethical behavior, and detects noncompliance through established escalation pathways.

  • Conduct or assist with limited compliance investigations, including fact-finding, documentation, and preparing reports to address potential violations or concerns.

  • Track all areas of risk and compliance, provide guidance on responsive measures, and prepare reports for senior management.

  • Deliver education to faculty, staff, and partners to foster a culture of compliance and ethical behavior.

  • Monitor regulatory changes, industry trends, and best practices to inform compliance strategies, and support the Office of General Counsel and Compliance in addressing compliance-related matters.

  • Manage the university's compliance matrix, ensuring it remains accurate, up to date, and actively maintained. Track compliance obligations, facilitate updates, and oversee the completion of required actions.

  • Support the maintenance and promotion of the University's anonymous reporting system (e.g., Ethics hotline), ensuring it is accessible, well-publicized, and used in alignment with best practices for retaliation-free reporting

Program Development & Oversight

  • Help with the development of the compliance workplan, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation, and lead internal compliance monitoring and auditing of the same.

  • Contribute to the assessment and implementation of systems, practices, and structures to strengthen the University's decentralized compliance infrastructure and enhance its ability to manage compliance-related risks.

  • Support coordination of cross-functional teams to solve complex compliance challenges, support risk assessment efforts, and help improve the effectiveness of compliance controls and processes.

  • Assist several offices in establishing and maintaining effective compliance risk-based programs and controls that align with best practices and enhance the University's ability to prevent, detect, and address noncompliance.

Program Management & Monitoring

  • Use strong program management skills to keep the Compliance Program on track, aligning initiatives with institutional goals and regulatory standards. Coordinate timelines, resources, and deliverables to help ensure related projects are performed.

  • Project manage compliance initiatives as needed and ensure projects are executed efficiently with plan for future monitoring/upkeep.

  • Help monitor performance metrics for Compliance Program plans and identifying areas for improvement.

  • Support systems to facilitate communication, monitoring, and information exchange among partners, senior management, and staff across multiple University offices and departments.
