Overview

The Technical Director - Radiographic Testing (RT) is a senior-level expert responsible for leading the strategic direction, technical integrity, and commercial alignment of all RT service offerings. Reporting into the Commercial organization, this individual acts as the bridge between market needs and technical execution, driving business growth through innovation, quality assurance, client engagement, and technical leadership in the field of industrial Radiographic Testing.

Compensation: $150K/year +



Responsibilities

Technical Leadership:

  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert (SME) on RT techniques, technologies, and applications, including conventional RT and digital/computed radiography (DR/CR).
  • Provide guidance on code interpretations, standards compliance (e.g., ASME, API, ISO, ASTM), and emerging trends in radiographic inspection.
  • Oversee qualification and certification programs for RT personnel to ensure compliance with SNT-TC-1A, ISO 9712, or employer-specific written practices.

Commercial Strategy Support:

  • Partner with sales, business development, and operations teams to shape service offerings and win strategic RT opportunities.
  • Support client engagements by attending technical meetings, developing proposals, and presenting solutions that align with customer inspection needs.
  • Identify and evaluate market trends, new technologies, and service gaps to inform pricing, service development, and go-to-market strategies
  • Sales strategy - Proactively develop and execute RT sales strategy and customer engagement to drive significant share of wallet growth

Innovation & R&D:

  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of advanced RT technologies (e.g., digital radiography, computed tomography, AI-based image analysis).
  • Collaborate with OEMs and R&D partners to test and validate new equipment or techniques for commercial deployment.
  • Develop technology and capital investment roadmap to drive world class productivity and performance in RT across A&E

Quality & Compliance:

  • Establish and enforce quality control procedures, inspection protocols, and radiographic techniques across service lines.
  • Conduct internal audits, root cause analyses, and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain technical excellence.
  • Ensure all RT operations meet or exceed safety, regulatory, and customer-specific requirements.

Training & Mentorship:

  • Develop and deliver training programs and technical workshops for RT staff and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Mentor Level II and III technicians and participate in personnel certification boards.


Skills / Qualifications

  • Deep technical understanding of radiographic physics, imaging systems, and defect characterization.
  • Business acumen and ability to align technical strategies with commercial goals.
    • Proven ability to read and interpret documents such as customer quotes, contracts, marketing materials, and technical testing specifications.
    • Strong client interface skills, with a track record of winning work, understanding client requirements, and contributing to proposal development including cost estimates, work plans, and terms & conditions.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to travel (up to 75% of the time, including overnight travel) to support client engagements, audits, and technical reviews.
  • Ability to remain composed under pressure and effectively manage competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills that support open, respectful communication across all organizational levels.
