NYC DOT is responsible for maintaining more than 20,000 lanes miles of city streets. The Technical Services, Innovations and Quality Control Unit is responsible for managing the quality assurance & control of asphalt production and construction within the division of Roadway Repair and Maintenance (RRM). The selected candidate will assist project managers and engineers in field assessments of asphalt pavement complexities, such as substandard roadway grades, deterioration of roadway assets and asphalt material deficiencies, and support the determination or design of potential repair solutions. Such work will include traveling to project locations across all boroughs of New York City, conducting topographical surveys, identifying construction constraints, and designing of roadway composition, measurements, and grade. The candidate will work in coordination with external parties, such as other units, divisions and city agencies or external contractors, to collaborate in design & construction alternatives through email and phone communication and in-person and online meetings. The candidate will assist in managing and updating our internal database tracking of localized street ponding cases. Minimum Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or Preferred Skills
Preference will be given to candidate who is proficient in Roadway design, Topographical surveys Asphalt production and construction and Asphalt specifications and technical writing. Preference will be given to candidate who possesses a driver's license valid in the state of New York. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of employment in this position. Preference will be given to candidate willing to travel to conduct outdoor field inspections in all weather conditions, and occasionally work overtime including nights, weekends and holidays. 55a Program
