Major/Essential Functions


  • Performs cost estimates on assigned projects. Estimates need to be complete to include all trades, contracts, and fees. Review drawings and specifications before estimating projects. Notifies appropriate project manager of any discrepancies found.
  • Provides construction management consulting services to the department's staff, shops, and project managers as required.
  • Reads and reviews technical literature on products, process codes, laws and regulations for project development and design standards to improve efficiency and effectiveness of current and future projects.
  • Attends project design meetings and other meetings as called for by the Project Manager to resolve any project opportunities or to discuss project schedules and performance. Attends final and post-final inspections of construction projects. Evaluates completed projects and reports discrepancies to the Superintendent and Project Manager.
  • Conducts routing on-site inspections of work in progress to determine compliance with the contract documents, quality of work, and materials. Reports contract deficiencies to the Superintendent. Maintains a log of site activities.
  • Establish and maintain computer reference files of standard task estimates for use in future project estimating.
  • Maintains project record files for all projects under construction. Includes a review of mark-up drawings and specifications to ensure they represent what is completed in the field.
  • Maintains documents for assigned vehicles relating to daily mileage, fuel requirements and quarterly service.

Required Qualifications

High School or equivalent plus two years' experience as a project estimator. Additional job-related education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

- Working knowledge of the Uniform Building Code, the Uniform Plumbing Code, and the National Electric Code.
- Ability to estimate and inspect all phases of assigned construction projects with major emphasis on accuracy and quality.

Pay Statement
