About the Department and/or College

The College of Media & Communication (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/comc/) at Texas Tech University serves approximately 2500 students across its undergraduate majors and graduate programs.

Major/Essential Functions

The College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor for the office of Advising. The Academic Advisor will be responsible with covering the following essential duties:

  • Advises students enrolled as a student in TTU Online in one of three majors: Communication Studies, Digital Media & Professional Communication, Public Relations & Strategic Communication Management.
  • Assists with student engagement efforts for the CoMC online student population.
  • Cross-trains with other majors to help assist students outside of assigned major and modality.
  • Counsel students regarding educational issues such as course selection, class scheduling and registration.
  • Attends departmental meetings and works closely with the department chair to help assist with scheduling needs and unique student situations.
  • Maintains effective customer service, teamwork and attitude on Zoom as well as face to face during meetings.
  • Schedules advising meetings.
  • Answers student/faculty/staff emails and phone calls in a timely and courteous fashion.
  • Acts as support staff for on campus events such as Red Raider Orientations, Advising Pop-In and Graduations.
  • Maintains and updates required forms in student advising, orientations and registration.
  • Maintains accurate and complete student records.
  • Stays current with TTU and national advising organizations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; one year related experience.
