Assistant Professor of Practice - Sociology 40725BR SASW Position Description The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month assistant professor of practice position to begin September 1st, 2025. This position is eligible for continuing appointment and will only teach online classes. It can be performed from anywhere in the United States. Full-time for this position is eight classes per academic year. Please note that this person will teach on an eight-week semester, so a typical load may look like 2-2-2-2. About the Department/School/Area The Sociology Program in the Department of SASW has 13 full-time faculty members as well as instructors, lecturers, and affiliated faculty. As one of the largest and fastest-growing undergraduate programs on campus, we offer bachelor's degrees in sociology and criminology in addition to a master's degree in sociology. We also have an innovative accelerated bachelor's to master's degree program that allows selected students to earn graduate credit while an undergraduate. Major/Essential Functions At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.
