Position Description

The Department of Agricultural Education and Communications in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor in Agricultural Education position to begin September 01, 2025 (negotiable).

About the College

Davis College includes the departments of Agricultural and Applied Economics, Agricultural Education and Communications, Animal and Food Sciences, Landscape Architecture, Natural Resources Management, Plant and Soil Science, and Veterinary Sciences along with multiple research centers and institutes. The College has over 100 tenure-track faculty, 2,687 undergraduate and 502 graduate students, numerous other staff employees, and generated approximately $14 million in extramural research funding.

About the Department/School/Area

The Department of Agricultural Education and Communications (http://www.aged.ttu.edu) is one of seven departments within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Texas Tech University. The department is housed in an independent facility on the main campus in Lubbock, Texas. There are 16 faculty members in the department, all of whom contribute to the teaching, research, and service mission of the university. The department currently has approximately 300 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students. Faculty members within the department specialize in one of three disciplinary areas: Teacher Education, Agricultural Communications, and Agricultural Leadership. Master's degrees are available in Agricultural Education and Agricultural Communications. A departmental Ph.D. program allows students to focus on any of the three areas, and online Ed.D. program allows for continuing education of place-bound, mid-career professionals. In addition, graduate certificates are available in Agricultural Leadership and Agricultural Communications.

Major/Essential Functions

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

Faculty Qualifications


  1. Doctoral degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Agricultural Education, or related area with a focus in teacher preparation. Advanced ABDs with completion by the first day of employment will be considered.
  2. Candidates must have three years of experience as a secondary agricultural education teacher.
  3. A record of research and publication in an area applicable to Agricultural Education.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  1. Holds or has held a teaching certification/license.
  2. The ability to teach agricultural systems management/mechanics or other agricultural discipline related to secondary agricultural education.
  3. A record of outreach and engagement with agricultural youth organizations, agricultural education teachers, and/or alumni.
  4. A record of conducting a focused research and scholarly activity program of national scope with a focus on agricultural education.
