Senior Software Engineer

In anticipation of closing our recently-announced agreement to acquire the charitable gaming business of Grover Gaming (https://grovergaming.com/), Light & Wonder (https://www.lnw.com/) is growing our team to deliver the best games, culture, and results in the industry. This new business will expand Light & Wonder's (L&W) cross-platform leadership, as the premier developer of games across Gaming, Social, iGaming, and (soon-to-be) Charitable Gaming channels. Grover Gaming is already a high-performing, culture-first organization, and we are excited to unlock L&W's deep portfolio of content that we know will exceed customer and player expectations. This role will be based in Las Vegas or Reno Nevada and is contingent on the acquisition closing, which is currently planned for early May.

Job Summary:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the development of our cross-platform core engine, used to power games across online, mobile and desktop platforms. You will focus on creating robust, maintainable solutions while working collaboratively with a highly skilled team of developers and QA.

This role requires strong technical skills and a solid foundation in game development. You will work autonomously on complex tasks, contributing to the overall success of the engine and ensuring it meets the needs of diverse platforms. You will engage with platform-specific teams and occasionally collaborate with content teams to deliver exceptional results.

Essential Job Functions:

• Develop Quality Solutions: Deliver high-performance, maintainable code for the core engine, ensuring it supports web, mobile, and desktop platforms.

• Work Autonomously: Take ownership of assigned tasks, managing them independently while ensuring they meet performance and quality standards.

• Contribute to Designs: Participate in design discussions, providing input to improve engine features and capabilities.

• Resolve Challenges: Apply critical thinking skills to address technical issues, balancing speed with quality.

• Support Collaboration: Collaborate closely with team members, QA, and platform-specific developers to align solutions and ensure a cohesive development process.

• Maintain Technical Excellence: Adhere to coding standards and best practices, contributing to the overall quality of the core engine.

• Stay Informed: Keep up to date with gaming and technology trends, applying relevant insights to enhance the engine.

Training and/or Experience

• Game Development Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in developing games, ideally in the gambling industry.

• Programming Expertise: Proficiency in C#, with a strong understanding of object-orientated design.

• Game Engine Knowledge: Direct experience with tools like Unity, Unreal Engine, or other game engines.

• Cross-Platform Development: Ability to deliver solutions for web, mobile and desktop platforms.

• Performance Optimization: Familiar with memory management, load time improvements and debugging tools.

• Collaboration Skills: Effective communicator with experience working in cross-functional teams.

• Agile Mindset: Comfortable working in a flexible, adaptive environment, utilizing agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) as needed. Able to identify and apply the right approach and tolls for the project phase while supporting the team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Game Engine Expertise: Solid direct experience with Unity, Unreal, or other game engines, with insights into best practices.

• Web Development Expertise: Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular) and their use in gaming applications.

• Mobile Development Expertise: Practical knowledge of mobile development processes and performance optimization for Android and iOS platforms.

• Compiler and Tooling Knowledge: Exposure to .NET compiler APIs or tools supporting game development workflows is a plus.

• Modular Design Knowledge: Familiarity with modular development techniques to build scalable and maintainable components

• Interest in Innovation: Enthusiasm for exploring and applying emerging technologies in the gaming industry.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in related field
