Role Summary

Reliability is at the core of Electric Adventure Vehicles. This position is in Tustin, CA, at the center of Rivian's Engineering and R&D hub. As a Staff Fasteners Engineer on the Tustin Materials team, you will play a key role in ensuring that our products perform reliably for our customers. The Staff Fasteners Engineer will perform a wide range of analysis and testing to our joined products, from the early development phases through to series production.


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teams across Rivian programs to assess joint design and improve quality of mechanical assemblies.
  • Test fasteners and joints to collect torque/tension parameters on the lab bench,
  • Perform detailed problem-solving such as root cause corrective action and/or failure analysis for issues with parts encountered in the plant, in a Service environment, or in the field.
  • Work closely with Purchasing and Supplier Quality focals to ensure technical performance of fastener suppliers, including qualification and validation activities.
  • Responsible for creation & revision of Standard Components, managing the part release process and maintaining Rivian's catalogue of standard parts.
  • Support pre-production builds of next-gen programs with lineside tool and programming guidance to finetune good installations.

Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD/PLM software and methods, such as CATIA/ENOVIA, for editing and release of 3D/2D part drawings.
  • Expertise with industry standards and the ability to author in-house fastener and fastener installation specs/standards.
  • Top-notch communication skills and the ability to improve fastened joint quality through 1:1 consultations with designers and manufacturing, and providing design guidance and technical presentations to the engineering community.
  • Ability to specify and execute industry standard fastener and joint mechanical tests, as well as design custom tests for analysis of fastened components and assemblies.
  • Comfortable as a primary technical point of contact for diagnosing and containing emergent Manufacturing and Service fastener concerns.
  • Capable of safely operating basic metallographic laboratory equipment and performing failure analysis and testing on fastener components and joints.
  • Familiarity with primary automotive structures with critical fastening quality requirements, such as Body, Interior and Chassis assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of commonly used automotive materials, their manufacturing methods and their influence on joint design, fastener selection and validation. Includes aluminums, steels, multiple grades of plastic, sealants, adhesives and composites.
  • 7+ years of experience as a fasteners, mechanical or materials engineer in a manufacturing environment
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or other relevant field.

Preferred

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in relevant engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of statistical process control methods
  • Experience with BEV-specific structures such as skateboard and bame assemblies
  • Familiarity with Jira or similar job/ticketing system.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $125,000-$156,200 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
