The Senior Director of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the preparation and filing of all SEC reports, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations, and providing expert technical accounting guidance on complex transactions. This position plays a critical role in shaping the company's financial reporting strategy, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring transparency in financial disclosures.

The role requires extensive knowledge of SEC reporting requirements, technical accounting issues, and a strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Legal, Investor Relations, and external auditors. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with deep expertise in financial reporting and technical accounting who can lead a team and provide guidance on critical accounting matters.

Responsibilities:

  • SEC Reporting & Compliance
    • Lead the preparation, review, and filing of periodic SEC reports, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, Proxy Statements, and Registration Statements.
    • Ensure financial statements and disclosures comply with U.S. GAAP, SEC rules, and SOX 404 requirements.
    • Oversee the accuracy and completeness of financial disclosures, including MD&A, footnotes, and earnings releases.
    • Manage the XBRL tagging and filing process.
    • Stay updated on changes in SEC regulations and accounting standards and implement necessary updates in financial reporting.
  • Technical Accounting & Policy Development
    • Provide expert guidance on complex accounting issues, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), lease accounting (ASC 842), business combinations (ASC 805), stock-based compensation (ASC 718), financial instruments, and impairment analysis.
    • Lead the implementation of new accounting standards and ensure company-wide adoption of best practices.
    • Prepare technical accounting memos and white papers to document accounting positions and conclusions.
    • Develop and update corporate accounting policies to ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements.
    • Advise executive leadership and business units on technical accounting implications of business decisions.
    • Manage ad hoc projects related to regulatory changes, system implementations, and financial reporting enhancements.
  • Internal Controls, SOX Compliance & Audit Coordination
    • Oversee the design and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) to ensure SOX compliance.
    • Partner with external and internal auditors to coordinate audit and review processes, ensuring timely and successful completion of financial audits.
    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial reporting efficiency and accuracy.
    • Monitor and assess control deficiencies, implement remediation plans, and ensure a strong control environment.
  • Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Build and lead a high-performing team of SEC reporting and technical accounting professionals.
    • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to team members.
    • Collaborate with FP&A, Legal, and Investor Relations teams to ensure alignment on financial reporting and compliance matters.
    • Work closely with the CFO and CAO to support strategic initiatives and provide technical accounting insights.
    • Serve as a key point of contact for the Audit Committee on SEC reporting and accounting matters.

Qualifications:

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience required
  • Big 4 public accounting experience highly preferred.
  • Strong background in U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and SOX compliance.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of accounting professionals.
  • Proven ability to analyze and apply complex accounting principles.
  • Hands-on experience with financial reporting tools, SEC filing software, and ERP systems.
  • Experience in a publicly traded company.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to interact effectively with senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional technical accounting and financial reporting knowledge.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex accounting topics clearly.
  • High attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
