Job Purpose

As part of the Digital Platforms and Innovation team at Herc Rentals, the Application Developer II plays a key role in designing quality technical solutions to drive Herc Rentals digital platforms. With minimal guidance, he/she will create and modify complex application programs based on requirement specifications.

Develops and maintains data processing code for telematics systems that collect and analyze sensor data from heavy equipment. Implements IoT data pipelines using AWS services (Kinesis Data Stream, Lambda, Apache Flink, TimeStream, and RDS) to process equipment telemetry efficiently. Writes and optimizes code for data transformation, aggregation, and analysis to support equipment monitoring, usage tracking, and performance reporting. Troubleshoots data flow issues and optimizes query performance to ensure timely delivery of insights to business stakeholders. Collaborates with data scientists and business analysts to implement algorithms that transform raw telematics data into meaningful operational metrics and reports.

What you will do...

  • Design, code, test, and analyze software programs and applications including research, documenting and modifying throughout the production lifecycle
  • Performs all aspects of applications programming and development
  • Troubleshoot application issues with a resolution first approach to minimize business & customer impact
  • Manages & Supports 3rd party devices, API integrations
  • Develops cost-effective Digital IT solutions by modifying or writing new software that ranges in complexity level

Requirements

  • 5 years of Development experience in modern web development, including Java, Python, Angular or React
  • 2 years of experience working with Microservice development using Java or Python or .Net (C#)
  • 3 years of experience with Cloud-based development, including AWS or Azure or GCP
  • 2 years of experience working within an Agile development environment
  • 2 years of experience with modern CI/CD tools such as Git, Docker, Jenkins, etc.



Educational Background



  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Graduate Degree in Computer Science preferred

Skills

  • Design, code, test, and analyze software programs and applications including research, documenting and modifying throughout the production lifecycle
  • Excellent presentation and soft skills, able to present complex technical concepts to business partners and senior management
  • Interacting with and querying databases and/or NoSQL datastores
  • AWS, AppSync, DynamoDB, GraphQL, ECS, EKS and Lambda experience will be a plus
  • Experience in design and implement customized Telematics solutioning using AWS services Kinesis Data Stream, Kinesis Analytics (Apache Flink), TimeStream and RDS will be a plus.
  • Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe/Magento Commerce and OKTA experience will be a plus
  • Carry out debugging, troubleshooting, modifications, and unit testing of custom solutions built on the organization/client's platform
  • Provide prompt response to technical issues in a professional manner
  • Experience leading Agile/Scrum development teams
