TITLE: Production Editor REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Sr Digital Publishing Strategist BASIC FUNCTIONS: Provide administrative and project coordination support for the content and production workflow of assigned American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) journals, primarily focusing on the journal Pediatrics. Assist with vendor projects and support cases to ensure system platforms operate smoothly. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assist with manuscript check in, assigning new manuscripts, and peer-review production support for Pediatrics. Assist other editorial staff on manuscripts in the peer review process upon request. 2. Review monthly online journal titles and table of contents for quality control, formatting and consistency. Work with editorial production vendor and managing editors to resolve content issues and troubleshoot XML and HTML file production issues. 3. Serve as contact point for online hosting platform and peer review system vendor. Provide support to journal staff and editors on platform requests by creating and tracking support tickets with platform vendors. 4. Act as point person for inquiries/issues forwarded by AAP Member and Customer Care staff. Serve as a liaison and contact point for platform technology issues between AAP staff, vendors, and journal editors. 5. Update AAP policy collections and serve as liaison with AAP staff to ensure policy labels are kept current. Work with editorial production vendor on article updates. 6. Manage the continuing medical education (CME) quiz platform and database records; create and test quizzes for CME journals monthly, coordinate inquiries from managing editors, manage vendor production, troubleshoot user access and credit claiming issues. 7. Quality check database indexers to ensure research content is deposited correctly in external scientific databases. 8. Assist with online platform alerts distribution, website updates, author guidelines, analytics reporting, building surveys, and nomination survey applications. 9. Work with journal authors, editors, and staff on the coordination, editing and scheduling of video abstracts. 10. Participate in editorial conference calls to present project updates and/or status on incoming manuscripts for Pediatrics. 11. Adhere to monthly production schedules. 12. Update and maintain standard operating procedures. 13. Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in computer science, publishing, journalism, English, communications, marketing, or related discipline required, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. EXPERIENCE: At least two years' related experience in website/digital production and/or print and online editorial publishing production. Working knowledge of front-end and back-end web development preferred. ESSENTIAL SKILLS: Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously under tight deadlines, manage projects from inception to completion, take initiative, pay close attention to detail, work both independently and as part of a team, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and contribute to fostering an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and respected. Excellent written/verbal communication, diplomacy, interpersonal, and organizational skills required. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office, web management platforms (eg, SharePoint), a deep understanding of current publishing platform technology and functionality, and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience XML, manuscript management systems, and virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams) preferred. Some overtime may be required. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $29.07/hr - $30.69/hr. Compensation decisions take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs, and organizational policies.
