JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Summary

This position will assist regular NTC staff with groundskeeping and building maintenance. It is a temporary, seasonal (summer) position with the flexibility of a set schedule ranging from 20-40 hours per week, dependent on prior school/additional job commitments. The Limited Term Employment (LTE) position will last no more than 12 weeks. The typical schedule will be Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 am to 3:15 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Perform all duties and tasks associated with assisting Grounds keeping and Maintenance.

  • Assist students, staff and the public with appropriate needs.

  • Move and set up furniture and equipment for offices, classrooms, and special events.

  • Cutting grass using push mowers, riding mowers and weed trimmers.

  • Watering flowers and plants using hoses, water tanks, etc...

  • Painting sign poles, exterior doors and frames.

  • Operate equipment such as power washers, wheel barrows, push brooms, shovels, rakes,hand saws, hammers, painting equipment, furniture dollies and small hand tools.

  • Wash walls, windows, ceiling, light fixtures and ventilation grills.

  • Perform collection and proper disposal of trash, hazardous materials and recyclables.

  • Regularly service and clean tools and machines used in care of grounds and buildings.

  • Comply with any assignment if it is in the nature of an emergency as expressed by asupervisor or member of management.

  • Maintain records and operation logs for chemical treatment and machinery.

Minimum Qualifications Required

In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

In order to perform the functions and responsibilities of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, including language skills, reasoning and mathematical abilities are essential.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, emails and memos; discuss information one-on-one and in small groups.

Math Skills:

Ability to add and subtract numbers using basic units of measurement.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions; solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technical Skills:

Ability to navigate to and between computer applications; read/reply to emails, open/save/close files and applications; find, format and print documents; operate common office equipment.

Customer Service Skills:

Ability to pleasantly initiate, maintain and end a conversation; act in a professional manner using appropriate language and body language.

Other Requirements

Must be 18 years old and able to operate power equipment, push lawnmowers, weed trimmers, handsaws, and furniture dollies. Must be 17 years of age with a valid Wisconsin Driver's License and the ability to pass the college's insurance carrier requirements and to operate college vehicles in compliance with Wisconsin Child Labor Laws.
