Job Summary:

The Wisconsin Athletics, Events & Promotional Marketing team is seeking an Assistant Director of Events & Promotional Marketing to join our team and be on the front lines of implementing marketing initiatives to drive attendance, enhance fan engagement and improve the gameday experience across venues. We strive to elevate the lives of our student athletes and supporters by developing marketing strategies that are true to the Wisconsin brand, move people emotionally and entice people to take action. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, planning and executing professional, entertaining event day production. Depending on skill set, qualifications and experience, the position will have primary marketing responsibilities for a portion of UW's 23 varsity sports.

Typical responsibilities include the following:
- Develop pre-, post-, and in-game promotional activities to enhance revenue and improve game atmosphere.
- Create promotions targeted at specific fan segments per department research.
- In coordination with other external-facing team members, assist in crafting game day materials such as scripts, directing in-game timing and execution of promotions, on-field game presentation, video board features, music, public address reads and other elements during the season.
- Manage other assigned gameday responsibilities such as game day preparation (set-up/tear-down, etc.).
- Assist in planning and execution of special projects or events related to the athletic department and support efforts for all sports.


Responsibilities:
Contributes to the development of marketing strategy and oversees implementation of marketing plans, projects, and campaigns. May supervise personnel within a work unit marketing team.

  • 30% Develops operational plans in support of marketing projects and campaigns including staffing and resource allocation, and oversees execution of operations that adhere to deadlines and budgets
  • 25% Segments audiences, identifies marketing opportunities, evaluates competition, integrates marketing tactics, and measures marketing program results
  • 20% Develops, edits, monitors, and provides feedback on content
  • 25% Oversees creative development and project management processes for marketing activities

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree
Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Business, Education, Sports Administration, or related field is preferred.


Qualifications:

- A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in promotional marketing and/or event presentation
- Experience in managing students or intern programs
- Experience working with social media
- Ability to work with students, coaches, and administrators in a broad range of situations
- Ability to manage budgets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Extraordinary focus on customer service; service and solution oriented
- Must possess a good understanding of athletics and be able to work in a fast-paced, environment
- Ability to work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Expected starting salary is approximately $65,449, depending on qualifications and experience.

Additional Information:

Conditions of Appointment: This is a 100% Academic Staff appointment. Salary will be assigned within the appropriate range, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is also included.
