Starting pay for this position is $11/hour

Schedule is Monday - Thursday from 2:30pm - 7:30pm

Summary/Primary Purpose: The Youth Center Associate supports the work of The Salvation Army's Family Activity center by serving as a positive influence on children, kindergarten - high school senior, through productive interactions, structured programming, games, conversations, academic aid, and athletic pursuits. Associate ensures proper child-to-adult ratios and supervision, keeping environment safe, supportive, and uplifting for all.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  1. Assist Youth Director in long range planning regarding curriculum, philosophy, and goals
  2. Complete monthly, weekly, and daily curriculum plans and communicate plans to Director and other Associates
  3. Implement curriculum, meeting the emotional, physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual needs of program participants.
  4. Maintain an environment that helps each child have a positive experience at the Center.
  5. Treat all children with dignity and respect, allowing for individual differences.
  6. Provide an atmosphere of acceptance and caring for each child, providing appropriate individual attention. Comfort distress in timely manner.
  7. Be familiar with and adhere to Youth Center policies, health and safety regulations, and emergency procedures. Possess ability to implement all policies, procedures, and protocols immediately.
  8. Aid volunteer assistants to maintain a professional attitude toward the program, the children, and the staff. Assist if needed with appropriate communication and curriculum implementation.
  9. Be an example of professionalism at all times.
  10. Plan, prepare, and care for the environment in which activities take place.
  11. Participate in on-going staff training and meetings.
  12. Maintain close touch with the community and families to foster understanding of the Youth Center program.
  13. Driving is an essential role of this position.
  14. All other duties as assigned.



Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience with children in a professional setting preferred.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.



  1. Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  2. Intermediate skills in Microsoft software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, as well as the ability to access payroll, timekeeping, and personal data via a web-based system.
  3. Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to detail, and filing.
  4. Good communication skills, both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  5. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.



Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Employee may often be required to engage in rigorous activities. Regularly required to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, and frequently lift and carry objects (20 lbs.)

Working Conditions: The work environment is a childcare setting with moderate to loud noise levels, both indoors and outdoors.
